v0 vs 320

I think people say 320 because thats the more common term for a high quality Mp3, where a lot of people, as you can see from this thread, don't know what v0 is. I didn't till now, but I did know about VBR (Variale Bit Rate), not that it was called v0 though.

v0 is the setting. they used to be something like --alt-preset standard which equates to a vbr file at around 190-220kbps and is v2 now I think and the previously mentioned --alt-preset insane which aren't very useful terms as there's a fair amount of scope to get them wrong.

Yeah the number is just the quality. v0 is highest, v6 I think is the lowest. Never really investigated the lower end.

You should probably use the -V 0 --vbr-new setting as it's much faster than regular -V0.
I think the default program off the link I gave is a fairly intimidating command line tool, but there's some programs about that make it much easier.

is good if you have a mac, not sure about PCs.

If you really want to get keen you should get EAC as well and rip your CDs properly before you start encoding them. Depends how anal you want to be.
