this is growing pains. get used to it. this site is bound to see more crap threads as we're over 2 thousand members now.
the two threads that got locked are slander/defamation territory.

hosting companies don't want to risk it, and would think nothing of terminating your hosting over it. if we didn't lock those threads down or moderate them, to an outsider it look's like the moderator's condone it. we've put way too much work into this place to let it go all down the tubes over some stupid threads.

if you think i'm overreacting, here's an example of what can get your website bumped from a hosting provider like go daddy for example:
godaddy.com hosting agreement wrote: You agree not to engage in unacceptable use of any of the Dedicated Services, which includes, without limitation, use of the Dedicated Services to: (i) disseminate or transmit unsolicited messages, chain letters or unsolicited commercial email; (ii) disseminate or transmit any material that, to a reasonable person may be abusive, obscene, pornographic, defamatory, harassing, grossly offensive, vulgar, threatening or malicious; (iii) disseminate or transmit files, graphics, software or other material, data or ....

This is a bit of a no brainer. The very title of this thread annoys me. Have a fight just for the sake of it?

Then take yer Tennants Super and bugger off back to yer park bench.

i don't want to go round in cirles but i still think that you are overreacting and that your risk analysis is poor.

would not locking yesterday's threads result in action by godaddy and the like? do you really think hosting companies are looking for violations of this agreement from users posting there opinions on other individuals?

taking this point of view, you could easily lock every thread. i'm also confused why, given your reasoning, that you chose to lock and not delete the thread, leaving the demafation up for all to see.

and really the issue, if there even is one, is libel, not slander and i really wouldn't worry about defamatory remarks on an internet forum! i've never heard of a forum being shut down for such things. more over, what about truth? theres a bit of judge & jury & executioner about the current moderation.

the pressures of living in a risk society, eh.

i know a graphic design site that was shut down over a slander claim. godaddy.com are one of the bigger hosting companies. they're not connected to this site at all and i was using their agreement as an example. it's funny how bent out of shape some of you get about locking down a thread that's got ZERO to do with dubstep or this scene.

To be honest, i think a reasoned debate with both sides representing themselves (re: the slander thread) looks 'better' to someone just arriving on the forum than a thread that has been locked.

hmm.. that's true though..

but what do you suggest? i don't want this forum to be shut down for not reacting on slander.

bad idea. i don't think you guys realise how easy you have it on here.

take a look at the FAQ on doa in regards to slander.
http://www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.ph ... did=171313

on doa slander is an immediate ban to your account. most of the bigger forums are the same. no site with a vested interest in staying in operation is going to risk getting closed down over some ridiculous allegation thread. we don't even have an FAQ for the reason that we don't want to moderate with a heavy hand.

more importantly, are people here for music or here for drama?

No brainer? The title was a parody of the discussion,a referance to the previous thread . IT WAS NOT SERIOUS. But, was meant to make you think.
I would suggest that we all go home and read Index on censorship 1972-1997, AN EMBARRASSMENT OF TYRANNIES.

STOP THIS DISSIDENT ACTIVITY, NOW.

Can we please stop? I think the idea is got .
Cease and dissists.

I agree in principle with freedom on this forum, but I cannot see where some of the more contentious threads are going - after you have tossed a few insult back and forward with someone (i.e. is pollywog a racist term as it has w o g in it) neither party is going to go, "oh ok you are right, I'll change" are they? Either let those threads die by ignoring them or post somewhere else. If you are looking for a fight, just look at who you are trying to impress, and think again, and if you don't give a fuck, them remember no one else does either so take you attitude elsewhere - thats not censorship, thats common sense.
