this is what the weekend brought up:
- made it shorter
- made the bass more interesting
- added incidental pads
- added vocal sample
getting there? needs some sort of build up sound- like a backwards-reverb-snare or something? I dunno, going to work on something different and come back to it.

you did not scare me away; i just forgot about this thread. i do realize that those rules were kind of bullshit, but i feel they were general enough to be ok. i really don't think that you should be discouraging people who are just trying to help twiggy make a better tune. no one was responding to his post so i figured i would try to help him out.
and about the whole 'find your own sound' thing. it seems like he is just starting to make tunes, and they are probably going to sound pretty generic at first. i am sure that the first time you ever tried to make a song it sounded pretty generic and lame. that is just how it usually goes.
wow, nice improvement! you could still add more layers of sound and some abrupt changes. experiment with replacing the drum samples you have with differant ones; see what you can come up with. or use sound editing program to fuck up the samples you are already using. i am just not diggging that bass drum sample. i like the sequencing patterns tho.
keep workin on it.
keep workin on it.

yeah go on then ju$tin...
...if i don't kill you, i'll make you stronger and when you make it big you can say "fuck you dumbugga you don't know shit"
or you could just save yourself the trouble and say it now...
...nice one DiDi and no my very first tune was a fuckin banger, at least i thought so
the general gist of not replying to feedback on peoples tunes is. If you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything, the bad thing about that, is people only tend to say nice things which gives the producer an inflated sense of their own talent and does nothing to improve their sound cos the criticism isn't there...
...I'd rather just spit it out and let em deal with it but if you're gonna criticize then you better make damn sure you know what you're talking about same as if you're offering advice
if someone gets discouraged by anything I say then they shouldn't be making beats to start with. You need a real tough skin to survive and i'm just trying to toughen twiggy up, get a bit more attitude and toughness and it will reflect in his beats...
...fuck the clinical beats by numbers and cliche ridden cloning of other peoples sound

Hey, it's ok, any reaction is a good reaction! As I was saying to someone the other day, someone who knows what they are talking about won't criticize you on your style, which is subjective, only your technique, which is objective...digi diana wrote: i really don't think that you should be discouraging people who are just trying to help twiggy make a better tune.
I'm not trying to survive- this project is strictly for fun! If ever it stops being fun, you can stick dubstep up your jaded ass.dubmugga wrote:You need a real tough skin to survive
Thanks for the trolling dubmugga, great entertainment!

i dig the tune, but it does seem a bit out of the can. use reverb to add space. try to place each sound in a place in a room. personally, i dig the dnb feel. breaks are always good, even if it makes it not "dubstep" by definition.
and rules are good, because then you know how to break them. i've found it's never a bad excercise to try to make the most typical track i could in any given genre. somewhere along the line the track fails as that genre, but becomes my own creation.

yeah why's that pete ???pete bubonic wrote:That's the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard in relation to music production.dubmugga wrote:yeah go on then ju$tin...
You need a real tough skin to survive and i'm just trying to toughen twiggy up
...and twiggy no ones trolling, that's just my inimitable style of in your face entertainment
BTW if you keep tweaking a tune it will end up sounding totally different to what your first attempts were and maybe not even better which i think is what happened to yours. You eventually play all the feel out of it and overthink the whole thing which then loses its spontaneity...
...so instead of capturing an emotion or a snapshot of a time or feeling you had, it just ends up sounding, cold, clinical and cliched. The big thing with music production is knowing when to quit and composing for where you want your music to be heard
If it's only to be heard as feedback on a forum then don't bother...

I'm afraid not. I'm sorry to tell you the dog was fictional - a creation of my own imagination simply for use in the making of an absurdist comedy point.dubmugga wrote: shot gravy...
so your dog got a name ???
Were I to own a dog however, I would devote the utmost efforts to ensure it could produce tunes.
Hmmm. Wonder if the pet shop is still open...
Ona vaguely more topic related note:
-Mr TheTwig: Big improvement! Sounds more spcey and more melodic. The drums sound a little low in the mix or something (compared to the big wide synths), but still heavy.
-Justin: Listened to that too - ruff around the edges, but good raw energy. Some full on old school Goldie/'headz sounds going on too. we like

I don't understand what we have to survive? Why does it have to be antagonistic? Without sounding like some tree hugging hippy, we are all on a learning curve and will all progress quicker working together. I mean our man may not be gunning for a release, just looking for advice on what to work on, not whether he should make a living off it?dubmugga wrote:yeah why's that pete ???pete bubonic wrote:That's the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard in relation to music production.dubmugga wrote:yeah go on then ju$tin...

we have to survive as musical entitites because we are in competition with every other artist and genre of music for the public dollar or eartime...
...if you're not fit enough or tough enough to handle the bullshit you won't last long enough to evolve
I've already given twiggy my advice on what to work on and whether to make a living of it...
...take it or leave it but at the very least people should finish a tune before putting it out there for "feedback"
