"rap is something you do, hip hop is something you live"

"Hip means to know
It's a form of intelligence
To be hip is to be up-date and relevant
Hop is a form of movement
You can't just observe a hop
You got to hop up and do it
Hip and Hop is more than music
Hip is the knowledge
Hop is the movement"

respect to krs for never going off point.

generally the people who dont like hip hop are those that have only heard the mainstream false hip-pop/shit-hop rap stuff.

let us not forget the original elements either.

and the predecessors....and the predecessors of the predecessors.

Now Hieroglyphics and other backpacker style hip hop is another thing.
I swear, I don't even call that shit hip-hop. It sucks too much to be anything decent at all...
50 cent, gangsta rap, etc. And yes, Busta Rhymes used to be awesome.

Gangster rap is big,

AZ, Biggie, Nas, The Firm, Big L, Freddie Foxx etc

This 90s west coast, nwa style twisted up and make into RNB or dirty south cruck shite, is the problem.

Real knows real.

I liked The Firms album, it had way to many intros though!

Desperadoes is a beast of a tune.

50 cent has some decent tunes.

I don't distrust people who aren't into hip-hop but I get on better with people who are.

Hip Hop was my first love

fell in love with it back in '86

but nowadays don't really visit it that much

it has become the soundtrack of my youth and feel like I've outgrown it. It holds no lure over me anymore and the excitement is gone. Is for the youngsters and not something I can readily identify with anymore.

I certainly no longer look up to Hip Hop artists in the way I used to and there is nothing really new that they can really teach me

not really interested in how dope their flow or metaphors are either

but still I am hanging onto my Hip Hop crates for although many of my records are now gathering dust

I'm not ready to part with 'em

I'll never give up on Hip Hop totally. It's just that there is too much other good music out there waiting for me to discover

I do not have cloth ears and so would never restrict myself to the one genre of music.

But Hip Hop was the music that first found me

and the one I still know most about

Ha, did I even answer the question properly?

Over the years I have managed to convert those who previously claimed to dislike Hip Hop. Showed them that there can be a real artistry to it and it can be damn good music

Most open minded people are able to identify some way towards to Hip Hop if you play them the right material

I generally don't get with those who are close minded about music.

or else do not have an real interest in music

Last HIP-HOP I bought was TRibe Called Quest. Ego-fuckin mania took over. Hates rap. Hates the posturing. And smug skip-hop really puts me off (Hermitude etc.) But did trip hop cos it was about sound and beat.
And I still do pieces. Diffrn strokes for diffrn folks eh? :s:

Few things irritate me more at the moment than people saying something along the lines of 'I like hip hop but I can't stand all that gangsta stuff'. Stop lying, you don't like hip hop.

I can think of about a million 'gangsta' albums I'd listen to before J5, Aesop Rock, Mr Lif or any other boring backpacker nonsense.

If the beat is dope and the mcs decent, I don't really care too much about content as long as it isn't too extreme.

Some of it is ok though, I used to be a sucker for Cage..Necro is a decent producer but his rapping is pretty bad.

My favourite kind of hip-hop is that experimental glitch-hop, no-lyric, mindfuck business.

I'm talkin samiyam, rustie, hudson mohawke, mike slott, etc.
Love it!
