D&B just pisses me off these days - still like some of the older stuff but can't stand any of the new shit. I think TC is partly to blame for killing it for me.
Was well into it, still have loadsa DnB records but I just can't listen to it for longer than about 30 mins at home. I can hack it at raves still, is quite refreshing after a night of dubstep...

Anyone heard of a guy called Cabbie? Not sure exactly how many tunes he's put out but 'Mr Jah' and some other bits on his Myspace are quite good. Think he's due to release some tracks on Digital's label. I wouldn't say d'n'b is dead, I'm just not really feeling it like I used to. More into dubstep and electronica nowadays. People like Calibre and Marcus Intalex should keep the genre going though, I hope.

It's not dead, it's just different...
To me its very very functional music. Its lost that feeling of looseness and spontaneity that jungle had- I always think its to do with the speed of it, the relentless driving rhythm that everything has to lock into. I think I can appreciate that on a dancefloor but listening to it at home it gets a bit stale.
Structurally its also extremely conservative in the main, but then I suppose that's the case with most genres, especially long established ones. But it seems like almost every tune follows exactly the same structure and not that many tunes develop or go anywhere. Again, I think the most powerful thing DNB can do nowadays is lock you into a near-frenzied groove- if I see a DJ like Break I can really get into it because most of the tunes have the same rhythmic backing, give or take a bit of percussion, the same intro/drop/breakdown/drop/end structure etc...
Anyway, as I said I think that's just the way DNB is nowadays and personally I have some problems with that, but then I've been rinsing DNB for three years straight so I'm bound to have got bored of it.

Strangely, shit like clipz is being played all over the place, but Im pretty good at ignoring most of it. I dont understand how people consider that music at all.
These discussions about *death* are so reductionistic. I am not going to go into some long winded discussion like I want to, but
drum n bass
rules all music.
Listen to dubstep, to electro, glitch, etc all take so many elements from the dnb. Fuck, even Lily Allen had an Andy C sample in one of her tunes.
Flying Lotus last weekend in Montreal, even ended his set with a crazy chopped up amen jungle tune. People were going nuts.
Jungle is being moved in so many directions, by so many artists that care to give it energy. But this is nothing new.
Stopped following it a few years back having followed it obsessively for about 8 years. And yes, my view of it was that it was indeed DEAD. There were a few exceptions of course, but going out was just rubbish; one good tune every ten just wasn't enough for me.
Now, flicking through a few bits and buying the odd thing, it seems there is good stuff about. TBH I find the whole Alix Perez obsession a little boring; he basically just ripped off Calibre and Commix and his sound doesn't really seem to be rooted in any kind of individuality at all. Instra:mental, Jonny L, D-Bridge etc seem to be on a real good thing right now. Strangely enough, listening to new Calibre bits now doesn't really get me going. It just sounds the same as it did three years ago.
To me, dubstep is going in a similar direction. As things progress it becomes harder and harder to innovate.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
[that was me singing clipz tunes]
Push It up vs. Download is the best double drop i've ever done - people in the room were like "mate you've been fiddlin with the decks for a while now this mix had better be good" n i was like "fam there are 2 tunes playing already."
also the VIP of grimey is just brilliant - loving the "griiiiiiiiiiiimey"
ok i am being pretty tongue-in-cheek here but on a more serious note, clipz can always put you in a wicked mood unlike any other moron music
