I agree. Things got pretty bad in D.C./Bmore as far as pissing contests between sub-genres of DnB. Liquid is better, Neuro is better, blah blah blah.
It all lead to the demise of what was a pretty strong DnB scene IMO.

this argument is dead. nobody cares about a new sub genre, as people like to think that dubstep is immune to all the troubles plaguing other electronic music genres. all the while they let it crash and burn.

The dubstep artists you have described are not dub techno artists.

Dub Techno refers more to artists on labels such as Basic Channel and Rhythm and Sound. Here's an example of a track I have in my collection:

http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=6442

Although dubstep fits under the large 'techno' umbrella, it is in no means standard techno. Newer artists such as 2562 and Martyn are influenced by the dub techno artists, but their style is a definite development from it, utilising ragga and 2-step infused rhythms rather than the 4/4 rhthms of dub techno artists. Their style has developed simultaneously out of more recent dubstep and earlier dub techno. There is a definite sub-genre materialising, whether it is given a name such as 'dubtech' will really be determined by whether or not the artists making it label it so.

sub genres are pointless, but as a description rather than a genre per se, they can be usefull.

for example if you were to say 'i make techy dubstep' how is that any differant really than combining the who words to form techstep or dubtech or whatever. doesnt necessarily have to be a sub-genre. its the same sort of thing as having a label that covers a certain style, like in dnb, hospital is a 'liquid' label, renegade hardware is a tech/neuro label etc. it can act as a helpfull description.

It is shit however when people say 'i only like such and such' and write of other styles.

Dubstep does not come under the "techno umbrella".

Dubstep is from garage.

Techno as a term is that has been used to describe electronic music as a whole, as well as an individual genre. I was using it in the former sense.

Dubstep is also more than just something from Garage.
