thanks.

i'm just saying that you have no idea what someone is thinking when they do and say things. and if they're posting about depression etc its not really something to mess with. even tho its a overplayed topic of mental health its still a condition that can be rather serious. i think people get a version of road rage behind their computers and run amuck without thinking. on both ends of that scenario. ultimately it's the guys own thought process that needs to be checked, not the people on the forum, but they could have taken into account actually being nice to the dude so he doesn't do anything irrational. i mean you have all heard the saying 'don't kick a man when he's down' right? it shouldn't be too much to ask that people not be outright assholes.

this coupled with a hedonistic/indulgent approach to sadism makes it a somewhat despairing situation.

the idea that there are people out there who get off on being discordant in some kind of thinly veiled attempt at validation or those who absolutely delight in being a thorn and causing someone else pain is just disappointing. like....er...I worked in an inbound call center, once. And there were people who called in just to complain or bitch....not having anything of any real relevance to add, but just because they craved the contact so much that they would provoke it through any means, including animosity. Its a desperate situation. I wish it were different but there is too much pride in anonymity. People are invincible as long as they can disassociate. Its almost as if this contemporary climate breeds some kind of sociopathology. That's frightening!

I suffer from depression from time to time, although I'd never kill myself over some internet comentary

however, people are sensitive and text doesn't have emotions or even a face to read

If you were to venture into my local forum here...

you'd notice it's like a virtual game of wack-a-mole

someone new pops up...

the forum regulars attack

if you survive that and keep in good spirits, the local asses will accept you and take you in

personally, I believe its bad Karma to give anyone a hard time, depressed or not

a sociopath is someone who exhibits antisocial or socially off-base, often entirely self absorbed behavior.

i.e. does not play well with others

Being a sociopath is a lil more extreme than just being a lil selfish/self-absorbed, tho.

Here's a link to the sociopath's profile: http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html

Separated (by a hair at times) from psychopaths who are a bit more cognizant of the suffering of their victims and delight in it, sociopaths dissociate so effectively from others that they do not feel much of anything for the pawns they interact with....which is more how they see it than I do.

The thing about depression though is that sometimes you get the most sense out of strangers, so saying that people should talk to friends and family is a bit naive. Granted no one should neck themselves 'cause of a few e-thugs, but when you have little faith in yourself or humanity the things that tip you over are the little things, not the big ones.

The key word here is empathy, and I think we could all practice it a little more. Still, it's pretty good round here - the ninjas are a caring, sharing mob really.

I think that sometimes, people can become reluctant to talk to friends/family about things. This is why organisations like the Samaritans exist. A stranger can view things completely objectively and give you a different view point. So I can understand why someone would post a personal problem on a forum where they are anonymous.

That said, anonymity also means that some people feel like they can act like a complete tnuc or like some sort of big hardman so there will always be people that are only too happy to take the piss or go beyond that.

I'd say that in the majority, the ninjas are a caring bunch. I remember quite recently there was someone on here who seemed to be in a slightly odd frame of mind - lots of concern ensued and time was taken to make sure the matey was okay. I'd say that's a damn good thing.

aye there is plenty of ribbing in here but very little of it seems to be with actual malicious intent, the ninjas do seem to band together and support people when they need it, just like with aleks, that was a great example of how safe people on here are
