that reminds me, is there a good funky forum? or somewhere I can keep an eye on new releases. they seem to pass me by pretty quickly.

yeh i agree, its very rough right now, but that for me is whats so exciting. i am much more excited by whats happening in this more or less right now, and in the next year, than by what i think it will be in 2 years...

Rosca, Producer Mario, Scotty D, Little Silver, Apple, Malice, Hard House Banton... completely killing it, their music is next level in many senses. and thats only the properly experimental tip, people like Donaeo, Paleface, NG, Wookie, Crazy Cousins, Geeneus are all making amazing house with a really new feeling. i love that there is this crazy point where innovation is going through the roof while sitting side by side with playful, uplifting, broadly appealing and functionally dancefloor music

These are some good tracks. NG always seems to play funky for the second half of his show.

On Rinse, DJ Able's show is good. Rythm Division in east has Supa D working in there, so worth checking them out.

Also...... Has Kode 9 playing this music made it acceptable for non house/ funky people to like it? I'm not sure there would be the love for it had Kode 9 not given his thoughts on it.

seems like it becoming an "urban" thing has made it more acceptable tbh. funky/deep house like this is nothing new, only the UK tint with the grime exodus is- the scene is different, interesting, fresh but the music isn't that dissimilar from past music; but the more people interested in house the better

i dont agree, i think that now the music is getting pretty different to what has been before

You have to say that the UK produced "funky" tunes sound fairly different to traditional deep house. Garagey feel to it aswell, with MCs over the live sets, DJs pitching the records up a la EZ and so on. The next music to blow after bassline dies out/ gets a bad reputation/ becomes unfashionable is this.

I checkout out the mix last night and was really impressed. I was very sceptical of Funky at first but there were some amazing tracks on that. The interview with Mr 9 afterwards was pretty good too. He mentioned an author (cant remember the name

) who wrote a story about london being underwater and another story about a city where sound needs to be cleaned up as it never disappears. Sounds interesting

I like what i'm hearing funky wise but im still thinking its very similar to broken beat. Im not as excited about funky as i was when i first found broken either.

The Drowned World is an excellent book.

I think Kode9 playing some funky has probably made a few sit up and take notice, but I was aware of some of the better stuff through Blackdown's column and a few other sources. This mix has just given me a few more names of the sort of stuff I like (the more rhythmic instrumental slighty wonky stuff - i'm not a fan of the vocals in a lot of the tunes I've heard)
