Its one long paragraph, no chapters, no speech marks, no breaks. I'm over half way through and still have no idea what its about.

So true but some more than others. PKD deserves a whole thread of his own really. Still looking forward to the A Scanner Darkly movice with bated breath.

right now -
foucault - order of things
dante - divine comedy
various mind-numbing technical manuals, acronyms, numbers, slashes, dots, techno-corporate b.s.
Damn. My hat's off to anyone that can read Foucault w/o giving themselves a brain hemmorage. I still have a half-read copy of "Power/Knowledge" that I'm trying my damndest to get through and comprehend.

Other than a bunch of uninteresting techie books, my reading list is pretty light these days:

"Bowling Alone" - Robert Putnam
"Man and His Symbols" - Carl Jung

I've read The Outsider and The Plague, both of which I really enjoyed. What else is worth checking for by him?

On a related note, I read somewhere that Michel Houellebecq is described in some parts as the new Camus. I think one of his books as been adapted for a film.

A book called shed crew. set in Leeds in the 90's. proper grimey. This guy helps these runaway kids and puts them up and he trys conquering his demons but he can not do it without helping these little pitrats. it is touching and makes you think about kids that have fallen out of the system.

I read both of those too, great books. haven't got a clue about the philosophy behind it all - existentialism an that- but i love his writing style.

someone told me that i should read kafka but i read the trial and didnt get that at all. straight over my head... i need stuff to be pointed out to me straight and clear - animal farm's more like it!

derrick jensen's "a language older than words"

also recommend "the culture of make believe" by the same author.

also reading howard zinn's "a people's history of the united states"

i cannot read only one book. i have to have a couple going at a time...

i am a nerd. but, it seems, i am in good company... ;)

also, for those of you who like the academic dissections of music, i have to recommend this one:

it's pretty damn interesting, and what's more...i was interviewed for it...so there's that...
