*blush* thanks very much! and yes this is true i use reason up untill recently i used it alone. I now rewire into reaper, not beacuse i thought reasons sound was bad but because i wanted to timestretch sound without slicing them and to resample synths while im making beats not open close open close etc.
i still only have one stereo master out track for reason in reaper so i still do the bulk of my mixing in reason the only thing i mix in reaper is a few audio files or vox with my reason master mix.
reason is the fucking shit imo no real complaints.

mate.
just read this..

I'll be making the move up from the joke of all DAW's (Acid Pro on PC) to the top (Pro Tools on Mac) in 2 weeks time. Can't wait!

For multitrack-recording Pro Tools ist the weapon of choice, but for MIDI-Stuff it sucks in my opinion.
i use reason 4 only and sometimes i feel the same as "vision".
but i wont give up, there are a lot of producers that create big tunes on reason. (like the widdler as already mentioned)
so it´s about exercise i think.
i just wish it would support streaming audio.

ive never used reason, never even seen a copy in fact. know nothing about it. and mostly i'm of the opinion that whatever tools you use its all good, as long as you know what u r doing with them...
...but reason is an exception:
everytime i'm on myspace/virb or wherever and hear some over-clean, plasticy sounding, soulless electronic music that i dont really like the feel of, i check the producer's info...and there it is, fucking Reason.
2b fair, there's something about the sound i like a little too; a kind of warm roundness. but its so fucking plasticy and synthetic, there's no dirt, no humanity.
but plenty ppl love it. and if u like it then stick with it.
i personally think it sounds like an audio equivalent of polystyrene.

Just learn the program. Reason is brilliant.
Andy Stott only uses Reason. Do his tunes sound naff? Er, no.
It's foolish to think that a change of program will improve your music.

Actually it's not foolish. I did, and I swear - it DID improve. It's all depending on the workflow. I ended up working better with th workflow of DAW X than DAW Y I had been using for a couple of years.
Or maybe I'm just imagining stuff...

Naw I'm with you. I switched from Reason to Ableton and I think things are improving. At very least like you say workflow is better. Sometimes you can rig Reason up to do what you want where as other progs are designed to do those tasks. And it is liberating not being tied down to Reason's plugins. I have been trying to mix down some tunes I did in Reason via rewire to Ableton and within minutes I can take that tune to the next level. But I totally recommend you take whatever prog you have and learn it as good as you can before moving on.

i've been using reason for quite a while, roughly 4 yrs now. i do have to say that it does sound pretty weak. BUT, a little compression and eq'ing goes a long way...
i recently started using more vst's like massive, absynth, and fm8, and korg ms 20, within live.
what it all comes down to is how you use your programs.
you still have to do a little mastering with the vst's because the synths don't have their own eqs...
anyways, just know your programs!

not necessarily
ProTools is a very stable platform for multi-tracking ALOT of audio
however, it cannot touch Logic, Cubase, or Nuendo when it comes to processing midi, and virtual instruments
but if you choose to pursue recording as a career, you will need know Protools because most professional studios around the worls use the HD systems
mbox and 008 are a joke IMHO
After spending time in a Pro Tools studio (a proper one - not someone's bedroom!) I'd have to agree. For mixing audio, recording and stuff it's great but give me Logic for song creation any day.

i would say the reason most people's music from reason sounds tacky is cos they are using presets and simply changing a few things so that the sound isn't really appropriate to the mood of the tune. Also since a lot of people seem to start on reason, they move on before they really understand synthesis - i know i am only getting the hang of it but i know for a fact with thor you can get some really high quality sounds if u have a vague idea of what you are doing.
