Alright so we have some interest. Lets put the 'theme' idea to the side then for sake of more inclusion.
One thing I would say about posting it in the dubs forum is that it would probably increase the entries for the mix to a point that is hard to weedle through all the submissions - hence 'production forum mixtape' - I'm sure folks can find their way to this forum. Plus if we keep it in this sub forum everyone already knows the deal so we don't confuse things with all kinds of late-comers.
Also I'd like to keep things civil as far as picking someone to mix the thing.. Don't wanna play favorites or ignore people who might have something dynamite to contribute. Perhaps if we can get past the first one we can choose someone new each time.
I will say I kinda had FSTZ in mind when I mentioned picking someone with 'a regular presence' .. but thats only because way back when he initially kinda got the ball rolling on the sample-pack contest - so I guess I was familiar with his track record but didn't want to volunteer him for this thing.
That said, I am not gonna make a choice, there has to be some way to sort this out so that the most folks get to participate.
Perhaps a few people can get all the entries and make different selections for their own mix? One thing I think is important is that, for example, someone makes a tune for submission but doesn't want all sorts of folks d/ling their 320, it should only be available to people who will in turn produce and provide a mix as finished product. I think I like that give and take, like, you get the dubs if you're going to do something with them. On the other hand, if there was only one mix made it would get the most exposure - which is kind of the point of this whole deal.. listening to a bunch of tracks is alot, listening to a bunch of mixes is more. IDK.
lets keep thoughts rolling. structure. more structure! By the end of the week I'd like to see a more clear conception of this project, more input, more concensus.

I'd like to see one big dubstep production forum mixtape maybe once every 1-2 months. With lots of variety in it, not just a bunch of wobble (but I don't expect that from this forum anyway) And when I think production mixtape I don't see peoples tunes who don't post in the production forum entering. Otherwize there would be no point of calling it a 'Production Forum Mixtape' rather a 'Dubstep Forum Mixtape' which has already been done.
edit: working on a tune for the mix right now.

Every 2 months seems about right to me too. Figure a month or so for people to get their tracks right, a month or so to select tunes and get a nice studio mix out. Allow some room so people have time for other stuff like the sample pack contest as well as in general all the other things people have going on in their lives.
And yeah it should be production forum crew tho I'm realizing now that its both hard to track everyone who posts here and who doesn't - and it seems like it'd be a hard move, or a slightly prik move to say you can't enter because you don't post here... like I don't even know if anyone considers *me* a member of this board, who consider's who a member of what seems like foggy treadings. It should be 'production forum mixtape' by virtue of its organization within this sub-board rather than some cliqueish thing going on, like, anyone's welcome to come in here and start posting - not everyone is operating on the same level or posts here for the same reasons, it'd be tough to try to quantify 'who's in' and 'who's out' ..
see what I'm sayin?

I can see that too. Nothings set in stone.. I'm most interested in making this be the most useful for the most people so yes, possibly opening it up like that for a bunch of mixes might be a route to take.
what do you lot think?

One way to decide who got to mix it would be whoever won the latest beef battle could mix it. They would be able to choose their top 10-20 songs sent to them by forum producers for a mix. If they can't mix, they could pick a dj of their choice. just a thought.

Yeah big up. I'm up and down on this one.
Be a good idea to do this regular, maybe every 2-3 months or something with different people hosting the mix each time.
Personally I think it should work like this :
1. Everyone uploads their tracks to the DJ's drop box. (maybe max 3 tracks per producer?)
2. The DJ then takes his pick. The only rules being he should only use tunes submitted (he can submit his own) and you cant play more than maybe 1-2 tunes from a single producer? (depending how many submissions)
I don't think it will work well if we put the actual mix contents up for vote (E.g a massive poll) because if you are assuming like at least 18-24 tunes for a 1 hour mix then it's just gonna get stupid, i rather leave it up to the DJ and his creative flavour!

What might be a better idea is having the best tunes of the month that have been posted on the dubs forum. There are so many quality tunes on there that just get ignored becasue no-one knows the artist or because people do not have the time to listen. Also there is a lot people on there that want feedback but not willing to give feedback on other peoples tunes.
A monthly unsigned mix would give everyone something to aim at when they put a new tune up. Also maybe bring new people to the forum. Maybe have it stickied to the top and people can suggest tunes that feel are the best of the month. There needs to be some way that the whole forum agrees to an extent what the best tunes are instead of just the person doing the mix.
The mix doesnt have to be of the best quality just simply a mix so everyone can hear the quality that is on the forum that probably just gets missed all the while.
Im willing to gather up the tunes every month if needed and maybe even blend them but what would be good is to get a quality dj that posts on here to do it.
If people think this is a good idea i will start gathering tunes for a mix at the end of the month?
