how essential is a wobble to dubstep?....

not very, its the BASS (mainly low frequency only) and 2 STEP thats fundamental.

the wobble being so common is just a result of bass and sound experimentation that worked and made a major influence in the scene such that it got a tiny bit formulaic and loads of wobbles were produced lol.

listen back a couple years, u will find some of the "wobble" doesnt even exist and the tunes are just as sick (if not better).

no i'm deadly serious, i think feminine 2 step tunes shouldn't be allowed to vote and deserve 69 to 80 %* of masculine wobblers' salaries. yep.

the wobble can get a bit monotonous and not to disrespect any artists, but i think that relying solely on this format will be the demise of dubstep. i love me some heavy and deep wobbly dubstep, but at the same time what i love more is the emotional impact of a well put together track that vibes with deep sub bass and original ideas; new sounds and original thought will be the growth of dubstep, just as with any relatively new genre or any movement of art for that matter

this is the truth. i'd prefer a nice pinch-style deep wobble over the sound of a dinosaur fucking a tractor any day
