had decks and vinyl for time, looking at serato now as I am now mainly buying downloads and make the odd track too which it will be good to be able to srtick in the mix
can i just use itunes? this is where all my music is. shame it doesn;t support apple lossless but i think i will just stick to 320 mp3 as it's just more of an industry standard when it comes to buying online. can't be doing with no tags or lack of compatibility with itunes/ipod. can not be arsed to buy tunes and then have to convert them

Go the used route, and make sure more then anything else you score yourself some quality decks. You can never go wrong with Technics 1200's in my opinion. I've owned both Serato Scratch Live and M-Audio Torq, both of which are satisfactory, although Torq being about half as expensive as Serato. Torq I felt was a cheaper less-stable (yes I had experienced random crashes) piece of hardware and software then Serato, although it surely6 worked the way I wanted it to. Music organization and management inside Torq is a mess, which is what really pushed me away from it. Although if your just starting on a lower budget out you might really enjoy it. Ez.

yea one of my colleagues who is a long time Serato user has the new version, says it's looking really nice, some mad new features.Step Correct wrote:BTW 1.8.3 is out. Anyone try it yet?
I'm going to start playing strictly .wav on serato. Anyone else doing this either? My friend does this with House and it sounds fantastic.
I've never used Serato outside of an odd store demo here & there, but Torq has been solid for me & everyone that I know with it.properauthority wrote:Torq I felt was a cheaper less-stable (yes I had experienced random crashes) piece of hardware and software then Serato, although it surely6 worked the way I wanted it to. I like the filesystem in the sense that I can just use my already managed iTunes playlists. The GUI could be better, especially in the file browser area but for 1/2 the cost it's great IMO. If I can sort out what to play next on a 13" laptop the GUI works well enough.
Picking a digital solution is like picking anything else, it's all preference. Ultimately you will choose the product that you feel gives you the most value for your money. I honestly don't think that you'll go wrong choosing one over the other if your wallet can handle it.
Torq takes a little bit more work to be as stable as serato, i find you need to strip all the shit off the laptop but then if your gonna play out with a laptop why wouldn't you do this anyway?ChrisH wrote: I've never used Serato outside of an odd store demo here & there, but Torq has been solid for me & everyone that I know with it.

What exactly do you mean doesnt act quite like vinyl... for me it feels exactly like it - been using Serato for 3 years and spinning for 10. Im just curious as to what you mean, it could be an adjustment you have to make on the software - oh, and dont look at the screen if you are more acustomed to vinyl - ears not eyes to beatmatch.Ben Freeman wrote:Yea if using serato you need good decks.... Yea, it may just be me. After thinking about it I think it may be something else. It could be my mixing style as I tend to ride the decks when speeding up or slowing it down (dragging and pushing with my fingers)...also combined with the fact that I had been a VERY touchy feely dj on my old 1200s mk3s, and I upgraded to 1200 grandmaster mk5s (which are rediculously sensitive to touch) about the same time as getting serato. My issue may just be me getting used to the higher torgue of the mk5s, as I tend to make the record go flying if I hit it as hard as when I did with the mk3s.
One issue I'm finding with the serato vinyl is that the hole in the middle keeps getting streched out too much (which would lead to the record going off if touched) I tried putting some tape inside to tighten it up again on my first set, and bought a second set, and it too seems a bit too loose for my tastes. Any recommendations?
I can't scratch well, so I don't even try that, so I don't know how it responds to scratching.
1.8.3 is the stable public release of the version thats been around for about 6 months now...ThinKing wrote:yea one of my colleagues who is a long time Serato user has the new version, says it's looking really nice, some mad new features.Step Correct wrote:BTW 1.8.3 is out. Anyone try it yet?

but the Public Beta of 1.9 is out and it is rediculous! 6 slot drop sampler and live audio manipulation!!! Meaning anything you plug into the mic slot on the Serato box can be INSTANTLY scratched and beatmatched, etc... so dope. Oh, and a "History" feature that does auto tracklists for you.
If someone could let me know if this is a fixable problem because I've noticed this on 4 seperate setups using serato all with 1210's. I can lock a mix and if you let it roll on for a while the mix will go out unless you make slight adjusments.Ben Freeman wrote:Yea if using serato you need good decks.... I took into consideration with some tunes you can't just let it roll in the mix and have to make slight adjusments so as a test I used tunes that I have on mp3 as well as vinyl. As I thought when the mix is locked using vinyl I don't have to touch the deck but with serato whatever I do it will start going out.
Ia amowner of serato and traktor scratch pro, i have some problems with TSP because he needs hig requirements, serto do not nedd that high requirements, more stable for now, but if you have mac there should be no problems(mac is more stble than pc)
My vote go for serato if you want stable dvs, TSP if you want more internal effects or lots of other shit. (i do not own sl1 box, my serato go with Rane TTm57 Sl mixer, but i think it is same like SL1 box)
That is my opinion

i do know this: control serato from cdj's and you dont have the problem.
that would lead me to believe that if it is an issue, itll be down to wow and flutter, not the performance of scratchlive.
Been using serato with the TTM57 for a few years now i still think it's sick. Check this shit out - did it for jokes a while back
