Precisely. A subjectivity clearly lost in your posts.

Take away the gore and you will find that the basic fighting mechanics of the game are laughable.

the original half life was much better imo
AI was much better
The flow of it was slick and the atmosphere of the first one was definitley lacking in the HL2
+ HL2 was really easy too much health lying around

The first one was rubbish apart from the gore, but MK2 and MK3 were both pretty awesome, I thought. It all went wrong when they tried to make it 3D in MK4, though.

Of course, Killer Instinct owned it's face in the arcades, though...

Mortal Kombat went so downhill when it turned 3D that it's practically touching the edge of the universe. That said, did anyone play "Shaolin Monks" on the Xbox? That game was fucking amazing, easily one of the best platformers to ever grace the Xbox.

Number 2 still owns a special place in my heart. I remember the death move for Liu Kang to this day. FORWARD, DOWN, BACK, BACK, HIGH KICK-MORPH INTO A DRAGON AND SWALLOW THEIR TORSO.

Tony Hawk, HalfLife, Bomberman, Lemmings, Broken Sword, Mario 64, Golden Eye.

Probably golden Eye, 4 player on a massive TV with one shot kills on. Pistols and proximity mines.

Oh, but what about Civilisation two, or Age of Empires two...

The entire Metal Gear Solid series

Final Fantasy VII (Needs a ps3 remake)

Probably some of the Hitman games

And Shadow of the Colossus is fairly amazing (although explaining why to anyone is hard)
