Disko Wrekkah is the biggest tune of the moment for me. How many rewinds did it get?
Did Mala / Loefah play anything else new? Did Loe drop the new tune he premiered at FWD?
Sounds like a wicked night. Thoroughly enjoying the boy's birthday party today but gutted I missed out on last night...

lovely soundsystem, ridiculously good vibes, spot on DJing.
highglights for me was the tune at the end of hijak's set, those dubbed out kromestar ones, the anti war dub tapped mashup which just kept on surprising you.
saaaaafe to everyone i met. will definitely be returning to dmz as soon as i can.
hi all
some of you may recognise me from the Rinse FM boards, but i'm a bit fed up of the constant beef on there, so i might be posting more on here in future.
it was my first DMZ, as well as my first proper dubstep night. last night has changed my life. un-fucking-believeable.
If the Rinse FM board is anything to go by, I've probably been raving since before some of you guys were born, but I'm still into buying and DJing new music - and it never fails to surprise me when I go to a night which has such a big impact on me - though this doesn't happen that often (been there, done that, etc). I don't do drugs, and haven't done for years, but being in there last night felt like the first time I came up on a pill.
it's taken me a long time to get into dubstep, and I just didn't "get it" - I've always been more of a bashment/UKG/ragga jungle/grime raver - and even though I have a few dubstep tunes going back years, it's always been the grimey tunes which got rinsed.
I've been putting off going to DMZ for months, but most grime simply isn't doing it for me any more, so the time has come. thanks to Deapoh and Rinse, I've been listening to a lot of dubstep over the past 6-9 months, and very little grime.
and now I know why it makes sense at last - it really HAS to be experienced live. that bass was the best I've felt for ages, the crowd were great, everyone played great sets, but Loefah and Youngsta absolutely destroyed the place.
I will be back, of that there is no doubt.

Mala played a couple of new plates at least...one was this all out bongo affair which reminded me of Conference, and this darker thing of his with snares reverbed to fuck...could be some more too but its a bit hazy.Grievous Angel wrote:

David - that earthquake tune was Vex'd Twitchy Droid Leg remix I think. heavy
Pinch played an absolute blinder, wicked to hear some different tunes no one else is drawing for.. Mala and Loefah tore the place apart, that bonga tune is incredible. Fat Freddy's Drop remix smacked it.. Youngsta played a blinder. Incredibly tight mixing, loads of teases and tricks, and a lot more variety than usual. Playing Benga tracks gives his sets a bit of a different feel. Unbelievable DJ.
Tune of the night for me was Loefah - Natural Draw if that's the name. Natural something anyway.

Yes - everything you said! I converted two of my friends who went along last night tho they peaked a bit early and had bailed before I even got there.the947sw11 wrote:..snip..
For Hazmonkey and anyone else I cant comment on levels before Mala becasue I got there as Mystikz started but the pressure felt perfect, best by far of the last 3 or 4 @ Mass. I had (proper) earplugs for the first time last night and not only did my bad ear not trouble me at all the whole experience was much better.
For less than £15 these made a big difference:

I couldn't have even contemplated going in there without them and had I worn them at Leeds I might not have broken my ear in the first place.
Whistla - I looked for you bruv, found everyone but you!
Night was special. Youngsta's set was next level. Roll on 7/11 @ Mass and 2/12 @ Leeds!!
EDIT: Marijuana Pon De Corner - Richie Spice - how many rewinds?? That was a big moment too!!

Very interesting. I love that tune too. I am given to understand that it's called Natural Charge. Any rewinds for it? Any for Disko? When he first played it I don't think there were any.UFO over easy wrote:Tune of the night for me was Loefah - Natural Draw if that's the name. Natural something anyway.
Good to see the grime-oriented Rinse people getting into it. Dubstep is a SWEET scene right now, absolutely beautiful, pure PLUR. I for one would like to hear some records with dubstep sonics and grime vocals, like AppleBlim's tune with Riko (which is very nice indeed).
Oh, and did anyone drop the new Flow Dan dancehall tune?
Interesting to hear that Pinch was drawing some less obvious plates. Did he drop any of those fabulous, deep yet chunky tunes he's got?
Wow - Richie Spice is STILL getting caned? Wish it was getting a release...

i can honestly say that, despite a bristolian jazz cigarette rendering me incapable of conversation for the entire dmz set, that was some of the best music i've ever heard. an absolute fucking gem of a night out.
seem to remember a lot of the rewinds had wonderful comic timing. at one point during loefah and mala's slot, stormfield and myself decided it was like haile selassie cross-pollinating chas & dave with the world heavyweight wrestling championship. well, seemed to make sense at the time.

Disko Rekah only got played once, didn't get pulled back I don't think. There were less rewinds this time than previouslyGrievous Angel wrote:Very interesting. I love that tune too. He dropped a lot of really dark, stripped down minimal stuff. Omen remix of HagInteresting to hear that Pinch was drawing some less obvious plates. Did he drop any of those fabulous, deep yet chunky tunes he's got?

yeh kromestar played that fucking dirty halfsteppa with the 4-note cello riff and the ruffage type bassline with a grime vocal over the top (if u know the one i mean).. sounded ookk.Grievous Angel wrote:I for one would like to hear some records with dubstep sonics and grime vocals
