as if everyone on this forum has TIME to listen to every posted dub and give feedback? i know i don't. i barely even check the dubs anymore, because i know i don't have time to give feedback right now. that said, i also don't leech and then not say anything. perhaps that is what is frustrating?
still, i maintain what i have said from the beginning. if you want feedback, make sure you are giving it to other people (i am not implying that the OP does not). it's about give and take.
right now though, i honestly think some of it is an excess of tunes and a lack of time for many people. the flipside of free dubs is that it's easy to overload your harddrive and then lose track.
oh yeah, speaking of which, make sure if you are posting dubs in 320 form, that you properly name your files with your name and the tune name, as well as tag your tunes in ID3 tags. i can't tell you how many tunes i WANTED to give feedback on, and then realized i had DLed weeks ago and now there is a tune called "banger1.mp3" in my folder with no ID3 tags.
sorry for the ramble. just now caffeinating.

I wouldn't say this forum is dead...but if you're not giving stuff away...there's definitely less interest...i've noticed this with ours having given out many to hundreds of users...
- When we're giving 320's away...we sometimes see 10+ pages of feedback (which is very nice, however we ask that people post requests in the thread)...
- The minute we say a tune is for purchase or not being given out...there's pretty much no feedback/response/aknowledgement...which i think suggests something about the trends on here...if people aren't getting something then they generally dont post.
Feedback or not, it's all good cause we're happy with what we do
This forum is less about 'hey listen to this' but more about 'free music' for DJ's from generous producers

i love the dubs section. it's not always that hard to tell when a track is more amature or more than the next even. i think you guys are pretty honest about the progress and what we'll be hearing when we get to the track. i kind of agree with what rob said. you're more than welcome to separate the 2 and we could all still enjoy either side.
about the dubs section being dead, i would disagree. our scene in buffalo wouldn't come close to what it is without you guys. i'm sure stunt, just rob and dubmike will agree. and it's not hard to tell connections are being made, opinions are shared, tunes are squashed. should be no worries.
then there's all the radio shows. every show i do is stuffed with tracks and i'm forced to play longer or cut into drum & bass. i've also noticed other shows doing the same, skrewface, stunt, streamizm for a couple examples. it's large right now imo.
after saying all that, there's promo mixes around the forum and internet that carry tracklists similar to my most recent mix, which is probably 80% dsf dubs. i think anyone else who does promos like these should add a link to this thread.

getting more feedback may be in order, but i'd feel safe saying that djs have the tunes in rotation and the public is enjoying them.

Getting no comments is a statement in itself. You can track how many downloads you have had and how many people have looked at the thred. This is important data in itself. Perhaps no-one is looking at the thred 'cos its posted under some ghay title like BIGBIGBIGTUNE8KBPSMONORASTAJUMPOFFSKKKEEEEENNN. Which means your prob a wanker and it would be a waste of bandwith dl'in the shit just to repeat yourself again, yeh yeh cut above 20k cut below 20hz stay away from rinsing maximizers n try critically listening to your shit and not get all offended when someone dosn't like somthing about it. Keep plugging away.
Fuck that you might as well have a forum for bruised ego stroking.
It's all a learning experiance. What you gonna do give up 'cos no-one answerd MYFIRSTPOST gayness welcome?
I got a bit of advice stay away from estrogen filled food.

well your 'mates' should maybe understand that no feedback = shite/boring tuneSTOON wrote:i dont make tunes, but i got alot of mates that have posted tunes up here, endlessly, only ever getting up to 8 views on the post, and never any replies......
its obviously not dead, but i thoughtthe whole idea of this forum was to give feedback, EVEN IF THE TUNES ARE SHITE
not just give feedback to good tunes, it defeats the whole point of giving feedback, how can learning producers progress if no one critiques their tunes???
people have to understand that stuff doesnt happen right away!
IMO this place is way more about exposing yourself as an artist than individual tunes. those of us with radio shows scramble each week to get to know all the tunes we got this week, and try to still come on here and not miss out on tunes for next week. and thats why ID3 tags are also so important as previously stated above, because we come on here to make sure we dont miss out oon great tunes, but we might not get around to really appreciate them for a week or two, and then i usually go back and contact the artist directly via AIM, email, PM or myspace. I see HUGE tunes go uncommented on, and i always leave a big up/thanks and then contact the artists directly. if you want feedback, its best to talk one on one IMO becuase a lot of people dont leave feedback because they dont want to sound negative and deter others from checking it out and enjoying it. obviously distinct production problems are different and should be delt with differently than style issues.
dubstep (maybe edm in general) moves VERY quick and thats why i love it, but sometimes stuff just takes time to get moving, you cant always expect instant gratification.
bottom line is that if the tune is good and your presentation is professional, you will get noticed eventually if you keep doing work and stay positive. hell, i wish more people would just contact me directly about tunes in case i miss them
HUGE up to all the crew who does this already, it helps me so much. i mean im trying to go to school and do all this other shit in my life and still stay up on tunes, its bloody rough sometimes, i have completely ruined my sleep patterns.
and like Basha said, for us here in buffalo WNY, its ALL about helping the scene grow and getting nights bigger so we can afford to pay for the bigger names. that is my main goal in doing what i do, besides help expose artists i feel really deserve to get noticed more. i KNOW i have artists that i need to contact in the future with HUGE tunes and i just havnt gotten around to it and hope i can stay organized enough to remember.
i mean look at bashas promo mixes, they are fucking HUGE and sometimes he has to do 2 a month! we are overloaded with tunes and even if we try not to let great tracks slip under the radar, it happens.
i love you all.
respect.

I pretty much agree w/ everything everyone said on here except the person who posted it
This forum is in no way dead, I've gotten mad love on here... as well as criticism from a few poeple who I actually look up to as far as production goes. Not to mention that i'm getting my tunes out there to people on every contient... what other website can you go to for that? (I mean a dubstep exclusive site)
I've also gotten mad dope tracks on here that wouldn't be available anywhere else..unless i knew the artist personally.I bet there are people on here who owe getting records released to this website!! And then there's the whole community aspect of it... the production forum.. etc.
You're trippin son!!!
I must say though, It's really hard to criticize peoples music though w/o sounding like a douche. So... you know... like thumper's mom said.
"If you don't have anything nice to say...."
I usually wouldn't get involved in some nonsense like this but.... how could you even say that???
LONG LIVE DSF!!!!!

i have to add, less time spent bitching=more time making better tunes.
feedback is not a given, much as many of us wish it were. there is a lot of music out there, some of it very good, some of it...not so good.
i think a lot of times people gripe a lot about not getting feedback because it's easier to put the responsibility on the listeners instead of oneself.
just a point to ponder.

a lot of the missing feedback on this site is probably people doing just that "don't say anything if you can't say something nice"
not all of us know what to tell someone who is hanging on responses. maybe we want the track to sound twice as dope but don't have a word of advice to give....
or maybe you get hundreds of DSF heads telling you how to make a drum track, man, that sounds great!
and i'd better get that free 320 from this thread too, that tune is massive bigup son!

I personally can't be fucked for a thread if it's a link to a myspace page where you have to listen to to some horrible myspaced version of the tune.
I also hate it when they do that, and it's a good tune and you have to ask for a 320.. fair enough if you're on the brink of getting signed or you are signed allready, but for fucks sake, if not give me a 320 straight away, link in the original post please!

STOON : Go leave some feedback then, yeah it's annoying when no one leaves feedback but fuck it they don't have to. Why post saying the forums dead when you could be leaving feedback?
and I can't help but notice the thing you said about loads of your mates posting tunes here and getting no feedback, you have an account on here why not show some support by posting in their threads?

FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
The way I see it, a dub is an unsigned tune. If you make a tune, this is the place to post either a link to a myspace, or a link to a 320. Then, people have the chance to leave feedback as to whether they like it/don't like it/have constructive advice on how they would make it better. Simple as that.
Owning a record label I have the luxury of being able to put stuff out myself, but I have worked fucking hard for that luxury when I could have been earning decent money in a normal job, so when people turn round and complain that they don't have access to a producer's own personal work it really makes me wonder what the point is. What right do you have to someone else's work? Why can't people just appreciate the music for what it is rather than witching about not being able to have a copy themselves?
I am generally a very positive person, but this forum is turning into a hideout for spoilt brats and it's doing my nut in.
