to me bongo jam is a celebration of epic proportions, a volcanic joy that can not be stopped, and it feels like one that has been repressed for a long time (by dubstep? haha), and finally erupting with the righteousness of rain after a drought.

to me bongo jam is, like someone else said, a happy and lighthearted, surely, but also very much serious tune. it expresses happiness with deadly CONVICTION, and not cheap bubblegum frivolity.
its interesting that you perceive it that way, but i would argue that you receive the tune with deadly conviction and seriousness, just as someone else would receive it with levity and frivolity. i don't think you can lay claim that that seriousness is inherent in the tune, by any means

the idea that joy had been repressed in music for a long time until this point can only be a subjective reflection in this context. i can't see how you could argue that that applies in any objective sense

ya i prolly take this music shit more seriously, and read into it more than a lot of people. but hey, that's what the tune makes me think and it's how it makes me feel.

but funky really is the first truly "happy" UK urban music in a long time, no? i mean garage had some bright moments but not like, Joyful and celebratory like this.

nb fwiw i like the video. unashamedly basic and a lot of fun, which is how i always felt about the tune anyway. and any kind of critical thinking abt bongo jam that stretches to more than one sentence is bloody ridiculous

you're crazy!!!

plus that would ignore the fact that house has been bubbling along in London / the UK under the radar of most outside it for a pretty long time

it would also ignore Mala! and plenty others besides

and 'urban' is a problematic one

point taken but even in this kind of party ukg the mood is still reserved, restrained and cool, and not the uninhibited joy of bongo jam.

that's my feeling and my perspective as an outsider anyhow.

Missed this before...amazing video, totally abstract and no bling/club/champagne/cars etc....

genius.

also think that for totally different reasons the bongo jam video is sick - its just got a sense of humour that does not happen in U.S. style videos....reminds me of the 'carry on' films in a way....

the full video sneaked its way on to you tube yesterday.

also my 3 highlights of the bongo jam video are:
the toothbrush
the iron
the jiffy cloths.
blessed is the sound of the operator
