I do like deep techno'ey type stuff, but if you want to play nightclubs you need to put on heavier, more 'accessable' type stuff.

martyn, 2562 all that type stuff. i don't get how it is called dubstep. much closer to detroit techno to my ears and i grew up listening to detroit techno.
I only started to hear Martyn/2562 very recently and I spotted a few classic Techno tune samples so they must have been into that.
There are like 8 posts on this thread and no1 has pointed out that the tracks in the mix are not Dubstep? I know Dubstep is quite open but that is Techno.

Not true really. Minimal Techno has been around a long time in the world but is still quite new in the UK and part of a 'trendy' scene. But if you look at how it goes off say in Detroit and Germany in clubs and has been for a long time now, it is not just for wine bars.Lojik wrote:From a DJing point of view the wobbly stuff is better for crowds becuase it's exciting when played on a loud system. I'm not talking big names and huge nights, I'm saying if you want to get put on as a local DJ when you're just starting out, you don't have the power to play really diverse stuff.LEQ wrote:Urrr, what? Not about pigeonholing themselves tho is it. Techno and Dubstep are different.Slothrop wrote: Wow, it's almost like some dubstep people are into diversity and not pigeonholing themselves or something...
DBX is prob one of the kings of min Techno and I would put money on it Martyn and 265232423 have a few of his records. DBX was doing that sound over 10 years ago and its not Dubstep.

It wouldn't sound out of place at a bar or a pub tbh. Its music that is quite easy to ignore and not offensive. But it still can go off in a club.setspeed wrote:

dunno man, i play in cocktail bars at least once a month (bit of a closet deep house fan) and although at first i was bringing stuff like D1, Ramadanman, Martyn etc in the hope i might be able to drop it in, i've basically given up on that. it's soooo much deeper than what people want for that kind of environment. maybe in some parts of london (these were all in Europe) but generally i think it's a step too far for most...Serox wrote:It wouldn't sound out of place at a bar or a pub tbh. WTF !!are you doing in dubstep forum then.. Go and listen to some mc's flow over dumb and bass.Phosphor wrote:It seems that 95% or more of modern dubstep is just wobbly garbage.
The only dance music I listened too for the longest time was D&B. I had heard dubstep several times and each time I heard it, it was the wobble shit. So I tossed it aside and stuck to D&B.
Then I heard this mix a few weeks ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7-elsip ... annel_page
I was instantly blown away and now I'm a huge fan of this stuff. Upon further investigation, I found more of this sound (deep, intelligent, no fucking wobble).
Having to weed through all the garbage to get to the good shit is a pain in the arse.![]()
So I ask... Why the fuck is everyone so goddamn fascinated with wobble? Don't you guys ever get sick of it?
And no i never get tired of dubstep it is all i listen to now... Take your non wobble ass to a techno forum or go to dogs on acid.. THIS IS DUBSTEP!!!Wobble or no Wobble it's all gravy..........
I wouldn't consider Shadow Boxing or Your Sound to be anything like jump up, Shadow Boxing is a dark steppa of a tune lot of love for it too, and Your Sound is '95 hardstep ffssetspeed wrote:yeah! like Warhead, Shadowboxing and Your Sound!Caeraphym wrote:I got bored of drum&bass back in '97 when everyone started producing shitty jump up with no character or soul.
No by jump up I mean shite like this:
Aphrodite - King of the Beats
Mickey Finn & Aphrodite - Bad Ass
Ray Keith - Chopper (Shy FX Remix)
Shy FX - Wolf
Which is all as gay as this:

YOU obviously have never been to a smog or a pure filth party and heard dubstep on a major system.. Or else you would not come to Dubstep forum and talk trash about the most exciting genre to hit the electronic music scene ever..Go to a real dubstep party... Don't post stupid shit like this in the production forum on a DUBSTEP website...Phosphor wrote:It seems that 95% or more of modern dubstep is just wobbly garbage.
