I've decided on the LP, then the Virus TI next I think. I know Wolfgang Gartner uses a LP so I asked him his opinions, his basslines are heavy, he's a fantastic artist and I trust his word.
"I've done a lot of my basslines on the fatty yeah. Front To Back, Killer, Frenetica, the Funk Nasty remix, and loads of leads and top sounds too. it's waaay filthier than the Nord. You usually do have to process / EQ it to get it to fit in the mix though since the sound is SOOO big it can actually overpower everything else!"
Also having the use of a Nord Lead 2 combined with home use of my LP I am going to enjoy production so much more. I'm stoked!

have you used it yet? I got it off the Moog forum, but no one seemed to comment back on it. You any idea when the ReKon editor will be out? Was announced as early spring but its not even on the ReKon website!?collective wrote:darkartois wrote:one thing that was really putting me off the LP was you can only save 100 patches, over writing the presets. this genius has made a vst controller so you can store your presets on your HD.

If you want a performance synth, in other words you plan on actually playing your synth on stage the Nord is a great synthesizer. If you are just getting it for sounds then just get Massive or Albino or something. Moog is well a Moog, are they analog still? If so yeah get that. I don't see the point in digital hardware synths unless you are a keyboard player, all they are are tactile softsynths. People go nuts for Viruses still. I remember when every DNB kid had to have one because of Ed and Op and now Ed and Op use software hmmmm...

This is an old thread. Moog was bought a good while ago. Still getting a Virus next, soft synths can go fuck IMOabZ wrote:If you want a performance synth, in other words you plan on actually playing your synth on stage the Nord is a great synthesizer. This is the problem I had with my Little Phatty.darkartois wrote:You usually do have to process / EQ it to get it to fit in the mix though since the sound is SOOO big it can actually overpower everything else!"
The thing is just too phat.
It's takes seconds to create huge bass tones. Something I can never make with my Virus C.
The thing is the Phatty will always sound like a Phatty. Its not very versitile.
The virus on the other hand is amazing at weird, unique and beautiful sounds. It always has a certain darkness to it though.
Didn't notice that my bad but what do you think a virus is? It is a softsynth with knobs. Modern VST's kick the shit out of those Viruses imo. Your call not mine tho.darkartois wrote:This is an old thread. Moog was bought a good while ago. Have you owned a virus TI? If so have you owned one long enough to properly know how to use it inside and out? If so are you giving your opinion after having used it for a while?
Modern VSTs do not kick the shit out of a TI, and it has nothing to do with who is using it. Its not just a soft synth with knobs, but lets say thats exactly what it is, the tactile nature some people love.
To be honest, i dont really like digital hardware synths myself, but I would take one over any soft synth any day.
And to the cat that said the phatty always sounds like a phatty, thats the point of having one. Its a character sound, almost all analog synths are like that. I can't think of one thats not.
No I haven't spent that much time with it. I do have a Nord Lead tho. Collects dust. To each their own. I hardware synth would have to be analog for me to use it.collective wrote:abZ wrote:Didn't notice that my bad but what do you think a virus is? It is a softsynth with knobs. I get your point with the Virus and have never used any of them but I am all for hardware, analog or VA. It spurs me on more to learn my synth inside out if it's a physical object rather than a VST. I could invest into a top midi controller but it still takes the fun of hardware away. It also looks better in your house and keeps a really good re sale value, I like to tell myself it always a good rainy day fund for when shit hits the fan, get more fun out of a synth rather than having some loot sitting in your saving account.
I'm with you in a way. I would really like to get an Alpha Juno with programmer and a Prophet 5. My first roomate had both of those among other classics but those two I have always loved and I wouldn't hesitate if I had the money to do so. I don't know what the going rates are these days but I would imagine some of those classic analogs wouldn't be much more expensive than a used Virus or what have you.darkartois wrote:I get your point with the Virus and have never used any of them but I am all for hardware, analog or VA. I'd just love em all, let the wife decorate with shite candles and i'll decorate with synths. I'd love a Voyager at some point, the thought of a Moog with 3 oscillators gets me semi hard. I really think as far as dubstep is concerned the LP is overlooked too much and more should be buying it. The collab tune I just did with Metaphase is the only bassline I've ever done that seriously rattles your ribcage. I never got anywhere close with Albino
