CLEARLY NOT TO DO WITH DUBSTEP ITSELF...
It's fairly obvious what the original poster is actually attempting to address....
and it is ridiculious..i totally agree...

they sent a mail last week with their new stock, and this was one of the new records.
my search didn't match with anything available, so I got suspicious it might be up for ridiculous prices on discogs allready..

and I was right.

now,
according to discogs this record was released less than two weeks ago

Released: 01 May 2009
today,
the prices for this record ar this:

£ 9.49

£ 9.99

€ 39.90

$ 39.99

£ 19.99

I'm sorry but isn't music supposed to be about, well, the music in the first place?

for a long time I thought of asking several known players in the scene if I could get specific tracks on dubplate, knowing that they might never get a release.
there are releases I'd burn onto dubplate and spend the fee of a day of work on having two tracks on a record.
but for wastemen who buy records to sell them with huge profit,
I wouldn't pay them with shit and vomit in a bucket if that could please them.
maybe I should ask those big producers for their dubplates,
people are making lots of money buying their rare records, I at the least would spend it on a cutting house.

the fact that people buy several limited copies to make profit got so far that at this moment, I have bought several record that I wasn't even fond of, just because I know they're sold out everywhere and unaffordable second hand,
and because I know myself, I get into a lot of tracks long time after their release, because they grow on me.
I was ashamed at blackmarket 2 months ago buying two copies of the same record, for me and for a friend of me,
ashamed because I thought they might think I'm one of those assholes making profit of music.

I just wanted to share this with you guys,
I really think it's a shame it got so far
It sold out on pre orders before it even came out. So they raised the prices.... I don't see what you're complaining about.

This happens in all genres, get over it. It's worse in metal.

I clearly haven't heard it yet but was interested to,
because I like Burial's music, aswell as I like what Four Tet has brought out before.. (check his remixes ep on Stones Throw, pretty overpriced on discogs aswell by the way).
I don't mind paying up for a record from time to time,
or buying lots of a several records I don't need just to get one specific tune in the bunch.
But paying 5 times the original price on a record that just got out is just wrong.
Mechabot 01 wrote: I have one question to the original poster -

Why hate on dubstep, why is the music a joke? It's the actions of others your pissed at so direct it at them not the music.

As for people b
Yes, but it's actions of others that have been structurising this music for a while now.
If it sais limited you know it'll be sold out in a week and popping up at very high starting prices on several sites, not long after.
The same happened to that Zomby record limited to 300 copies,
worst part is people complained onhere about the low pressing quality, but yet people asked more than 20 pounds for it saying it was "LIMITED, YOU WONT FIND THIS ANYWHERE" on discogs.
And yes, I'm aware this also was getting a repress..
j_j_c wrote: this is just about discogs, you mention nothing about the music?
are you just raging because you didn't manage to pick up a copy and now it's sold out? seems that way.
It's more than "this one copy that I just wanted to check out".
All over discogs you'll see records at ridiculous prices as soon as it seems to be sold out prices go up in huge tempo.
Now that Rusko's "Babylon" ep is sold out people ask up to 5 time its original price.
That was one thing I was actually after, but none of the record shops I'm buying records at managed to get their hands on when it was still in stock.
All of a sudden the prices went up and that's that.
It's sad that the purchasing of music gets dominated by limited time to get after your music.
Jolly Wailer wrote: just didn't bother to search for it anywhere other than where it would most commonly be overtly marked up for people who can't bother to search for it elsewhere
I guess all the overpriced records are available somewhere at 2 quid each then?
I use this record as my primary example, but you can't deny the thing about prices going way up right?
It's not about the record anymore, it was never about not being able to look further,
I get home with dust on my fingers every week, just to then check the internet for more records,
and when I'm looking for booty house, old dnb, old jungle, folklore music, soul, funk, 60s rock, hip hop or grime there seems to be no problem, but as soon as I look for dubstep it looks like I would be better off with the fee of a lawyer to buy whatever I want, even though only released a month.

Thanks,
that's about the whole point of my post.
I'm one of those people that need too much words to make one thing clear but if that doesn't bring the message i guess nothing will

i understand why not being able to buy the records you want would piss you off (it pisses me off...anyone wanna sell me Neverland?)

BUT if you want to buy doubles or triples, thats up to you. i do it whenever i can afford to, and sell it if the tune becomes super rare, or keep it if my other copy gets fucking battered.

nothing wrong with a bit of tune-hustling. £7 posted to you, £15 posted to someone else. fair game. the producers/labels are free to do exactly the same thing if they want. i never complained when i bought anti war dub for silly money. same as whoever i sold changes to, no doubt.

Yeah, it's like

£100 on discogs for a fucking Church Of Misery LP!!!

Not happy about that.

I think funk 7"s take the biscuit though price wise. However they at least are at least old and rare. It's actually a big deal to find these records. It's not just some dick buying a load of copies of some limited pressing of a record and selling them on for double the price just for some easy money.

dumb thread. supply and demand, simple as that really. some people like to make money. extortionate? well, maybe, welcome to capitalist society.
what the fact of dubstep has to do with it is anyone's guess. not to mention the fact that imo it's a bit of a stretch calling burial's usual work dubstep in the first place, let alone moth.

although it is an absolutely mind blowing tune and i understand your irritation.

it's a bit of a stretch to brand dubstep a joke beacause of inflationary prices on discogs. i agree with you about a lot of discogs prices being ridiculous though.

btw dubstep is a joke, but second hand prices aren't the reason :6:

sorry dude,
but that's about the same way I do it.
I'm from Belgium,
and I've been buying old school jungle for years aswell.
It's not cool if you pay 45 euros for a ruff n tuff record no one's interested to hear at a party, or not even being able to play at parties because no one cares about your music, but I work to pay my records anyway.
I too know of paying huge prices to get your records delivered,
and I too know that it's a lot of money getting tickets to and from London twice a year just to buy records there.
But I've never bought doubles to have someone else compensating my purchases,
that's just not the way it works for me.
Oh and to be clear, I get asked for none of the music I play,
except for jungle from time to time but the scene's so small it just doesn't compensate with the financial input from old school jungle dj's here.

selling rare records is part of the game! why they press limited coloured vinyl!?!? and if you are a well none dj you don't have 2 buy records you will receive theme for free... part of the game!

mate I'm not tryin to mug you off and you have a good point about records in general going for ridiculous mark-ups but the specific record you're looking for (and made a thread about) is still available from more than a few outlets at retail cost

i say just put some effort in as a proactive consumer and don't get had by the fishing that goes down on discogs, thats a blatant set up for people who don't know any better..

as stated before it's not about the specific record anymore, it's just one of many examples where people are forced to buy records so that in half a year they won't have to pay it for 5 times the original price.
and as said before I put a lot of effort in buying records, it's practically the only thing that keeps me going, literally.

Exactley. Surprised no one's brought that up yet? No need to feel guilty about buying 2 records. I bought 4 copies of the new Burial/Four Tet 12". Two for me and two for my brother in Australia. Record stores don't care what you do with the records you buy.....they're just happy you're buying their stuff.

As for Discogs.................I've got loads of cheap stuff from there? Sure people sell loads of stuff at top ££$$ but they rarely get it.
