Clear Channel had nothing to do with the Scion show. Clear Channel doesn't promote shows anymore(outside of their own radio events). They split the company in half and Live Nation (live entertainment) spun off from Clear Channel (media) a long time ago. Live Nation had nothing to do with Roxy show on Wednesday or any of the other Scion events. Roxy is an independantly owned / run room. Lou Adler owns the place (guy with white hair who sits next to Jack Nicholson at Laker games). Big up all those IN THE SCENE who threw the party. The dance went off, Joker smashed it and i had a fucking blast.

Holy shit that's Lou Adler? I never realized he looked so much like Mick Fleetwood(I have to admit I always thought it was Mick Fleetwood)

Ha, that guy directed Up in Smoke

hrm. that is not my understanding at all. but either way corporate exploitation of an underground subculture for monetary gain has never been beneficial to that subculture in the long haul, even tho it looks pretty upon first glance.

okay okay.. look.. the boyles owned sis.. then it became clear channel.. after a bunch of shitty shows clear channel changed its name to live nation.. THATs NAMED AFTER THE CLUB IN DC I USED TO WORK AT.. NATION..

I was there when john, chach and lou where talking about it.. it's all the same different name.. scion parties started AT nation.. with jamie darvish.. (the car guy in DC).. it's all wraped up, and don't tell me that not how it is, coz I used to work for those guys..

I'm not saying that they are a bad company to work for.. but they don't need to do to dubstep what they did to the rave scene that for sure..

and the cali heads dun really know what I'm talking about cooz there are still big raves here, but the east coast heads will, as far as how clear channel distroyed the raves in the 90's...

thats my 2 cents.. now that thats out of the way.. how about hookin a bruva up with a jobby job at hob.. :P

i've been to many scion/free events in miami and they're all great. they always have top notch sound and djs and give a way a bunch of shit, and are usually free.

drop the lime and ac slater are playing on sunday, i can't complain. however we don't have "mainstream" clubs here really. shit's very underground here.

a few years ago i saw de la soul @ free show sponsored by Camel. that's about the only time i feel weird going to these events because they are literally trying to take your money and kill you. at least scion is a decent product.

I wouldn't say that dubstep would be ruined by corporations. I think an Us vs. Them mindset and the theme of exclusivity will do more to ruin the scene than anything a corporation could do.

Music isn't about snobbery and determining who gets to be part of this genre clique. Its about people who love the music. People learning to love the music. People coming together for the music. Its supposed to be all about the music. And until there is a litmus test for how wobblerific you have to be before you're allowed to play with the dubsteppers, we should prolly lay off the assumptions about why people are going to the shows.

And I can't hate on any DJ/Producer for working with a corporate gig. I hate this whole argument over the "keepin it real" vs "sell out" bs. You want to keep it really real?

DJs/Producers......how many of you just want to be heard? If you had the opportunity to be heard, would you take it?

Keepin it real is more for the fans than the artist. The artist just wants to share--its the fanbase that holds artists to this ridiculous standard and that's lame because at the end of the day, if you're not in this to be heard, then you shouldn't be in it. And heaven forbid you don't have to struggle to get food on the table AND produce/spin. Guess you're not keeping it real if you got your light bill paid and got to go to another country cuz some cats over there wanna hear your jams and you never got to travel before in your life.

respect to all the artists getting paid to do they thing, love you, but fuck scion, red bull, bacardi and whatever else...

hype? sure, but straight up, the vibes at every sponsored event ive been to have been shallow & off.

apparently weve traded traditional multi national media corporate control for multi national whatever bullshit has money to burn corporate control.

sorry, not feeling the shituation at all.

and its not just dubstep. what they are doing in Hiphop pisses me off more than anything. the scion presence at scribble jam last year made me want to vomit.

*edit* and for anyone who doesnt think this is a big deal.... it might not seem like a big deal locally, when they just do a few shows here and there... but if you add up everything they are involved in, scion is EASILY the largest promoter of bass driven edm in the US. combine that with all the other corporations jumping on board... and its getting worrisome to me. the money they are spending may seem decent to us, the artists & promoters... but its NOTHING to them compared to tradition advertising. which is why they fly in "huge" djs and have no cover. its hard to argue against them, they seem to take a very hands off approach... so essentially it comes down to a matter of intent & vibes. i argue you can FEEL at these parties that its a logo (vs logos) worship ritual. sigil magic energy harvesting. i just feel it.... and i think its worth discussing...

maybe this is just what happens when zomby actually shows up to a gig?
jaybird wrote:Zomby WTF where you doing.. THATS NOT DUBSTEP!!!!
all this talk about how dubstep is becoming trendy... being closed-minded only contributes to this. getting paid a rediculous amount of money by a corporation to fly out to LA and then NOT playing dubstep at a dubstep show? now THAT'S keeping it real :)

nobody is suggesting that we exclude new people or prevent artists from being heard. but we don't need to involve corporate entities to bring exposure to our artists or talent to the states. The point is that these corporate promoters are just using the music to get youth interested in their product. they blow the spot up and it kills the vibe

big ups human? on the commentary

if Pure Filth can bring out 800 people to hear skream on a tuesday night, cause a bassquake, keep everybody hyped, happy, safe and hold a steady positive vibe all night long, no problems and no bullshit what so ever, yet scion can't bring out 200 people without practically causing a riot out front, then why are we even tampering with these corporations? dubstep is an underground thing and if it's going above ground it should grow up on its own, not be uprooted by a giant.

Booooooooom!!!!! right on target...

I'm saying people like Samxl work their asses off to make shit happen, and if scion or any other corp wanted to they could come in, and ruin everything that sam has spent 2 years building up..

THATS BULLSHIT.... CORPS NEED TO STAY THE FUCK OUT OF OUR SCENE...

There are good promoters and the DJs dun need corps to get them to the usa.. Dun take the easy road, or dubstep will have the same fate as trance..

I've gone to a lot of those shows and don't drive a Scion or drink Red Bull. That shit is bad for you and the cars suck. Oh, but a free show?

I'll take that. I didn't sell out, I bought in. Rather, I walked in and took it for free... because Scion don't charge for those shows. So what if some corporation gives people a chance to hear DJs they normally wouldn't for free... you don't have to go and support it. However, don't hate on those who do.
