I find it a bit strange that Ricardo would go for the Request Line to remix. His more recent stuff is a lot more about acoustic instruments and tribal drum-circle type stuff. The sino-styled melodies and hand drums which are in a shit load of dubstep at the moment would seem more suited to him. I'm sure it'll be interesting anyway!

lots of minimal techno guys in Toronto are really getting into the sound.
This excites me quite a bit as if any cross over were to happen I'd much rather it on the side of minimal techno than dnb (which seams to big atm)
I've actually been booked to play at a weekly technoish night here in the city this week. any local heads that want to come threw please do! I'm excited at digging deep into some burial / kode9 stuff that tends to not get much love at the predominantly exdnb driven parties that usually get held here.

Most new minimal techno bores me rigid, villalobos and hawtin included
I've tried with it, but like so many genres it seems like the 90s stuff utterly destroys it.. basic channel, sahko, chain reaction etc.. sleeparchive, robert henke, claro intellecto and all that lot are doing cool things though 
My knowledge of minimal stuff is pretty decent but I know nothing about drexciya and the related projects, which seems like a serious gap. Anyone have any recommendations? The back catalogue is ridiculously intimidating, and it seems like barely any of it is readily available..

ben, i reckon you should dig deeper, given your tastes im very very suprised you say that. i keep meaning to do a mix, when i do ill link you it.
i dont think comparing it to the 90s stuff is really appropriate... very very different really, kind of like comparing garage to dubstep, same strain and definate influence but not like for like in most cases

ive only experienced enlightenment only once in my life. it was about 3 or 4 years ago. i went out to see richie hawtin do DE9 all by myself.
ive never been lost in music the way i was when i seen hawtin. it was like everyone disappeared around me. space and tiome didnt matter anymore. i just saw pure infinite blackness and stars moving all around. i felt totally weightless but i was dancing my ass of. im not sure what happened but the entire experience was extremely profound to me.
no drugs were involved. hawtin is a monster on a proper system.

That's interesting.. how does more recent chain reaction stuff fit in with minimal techno right now? It seems like the scene underwent some pretty serius splits somewhere along the line.. a lot of people seem to have started making awesome beatless stuff having made pretty standard techno for ages, but then some people seem to have gone in totally opposite directions, concentrating on percussive elements and almost nothing else? Alot of their early stuff on underground resistance is really raw - which i like alot. The return of drexciya ep on Underground resistance is very good also imo.
Both the albums on tresor are really good. Also pick up the Elektroids on Warp if you can. drexciya no longer exists because one of the members- James Stinson, died (you prob already know that though) but the music lives on somewhat through arpanet.
For what its worth i often put minimal techno and electro bass music in my dubstep sets for subfm. I was involved in the minmal techno scene SF quite a bit in the mid nineties i opened up for people like dan bell and claude young) so I have pretty good collection of that music .
Actually in most of my mixes there is something drawn from the minimal techno subcategory of electronic music and others.

reggae tinged minimal on SOME of the releases.

I love rhythm and sound but they haven't made anything i'd call techno for a long time.
The see mi yah remixes I suppose, but I thought they were quite poor. Really disappointed in the vladislav delay mix especially, as I think that guy's a genius.
The scape records gang have drifted away from what I'd call techno as well, as much as I love it.

I actually didn't buy See Mi Yah remixes, which is shocking considering how much I love Rhythm & Sound. I heard a handful of the tracks, and the only one that excited me was the Basic Reshape mix by Basic Channel. I'm a big fan of the Wackies reissue program and the Basic Replay reissues. The latest installments from White Mice are on my "must buy" list after hearing clips on Boomkat.

My buddy kit clayton who was on ~scape just had a new record released on soul jazz that is kinda of an acid dancehall thing. i send him dubstep mixes regularly he likes grime i know that but he hasnt expressed a huge love for dubstep to me yet. He also doesn't really seem to be making any minimal stuff anymore (that I know of). I havea few unreleased tunes by him that go more in the dancehall direction and some just plain funny/weird stuff.
deadbeat is still around he is experimenting a little more widely with reggae/ ragga influenced stuff. there is a recent show of his on kuma's show art of beats.
I have to admit though I have sorta lost track of that world to some degree.
In the sort of basic channel minimal techno direction echocord(label) is carrying on the tradition fairly well - its a different group of artists though.
I personally would really like to hear some of the hybrids that will occur as the dubstep world and the minimal techno world exchange ideas
