Benga had that voice talking over his tracks I remember. Not too annoying, but enough to not want to play out with that.

Fuckin sucks balls man but the bright side is this; if some sucka dj wants to play wank myspace rips that sound crud then its free publicity for your tunes! People will want to buy proper versions even more when they get released! True your not making the money now but in the future you will be like Scrouge McDuck and his money pit, swimming around in that shit!

You've a solid fan base bro, don't let a couple of twats ruin it for the rest of us stand up headz. Watermark the tunes and don't worry about it.

Keep up the amazing work and dont let the bastards get you down!

Peace

I noticed Skream was doing it to his tracks on myspace. I reckon a vocal sample before the drop - with a delay on it (to avoid just cutting out the sample).

Basically make a "promo" edit of each tune you want up around the net. I know it will take a bit longer than normal but you're a big enough producer to warrant spending time time on this. Obviously, as people are wanting your tracks at any cost!

Peace

its strange how this culture of wanting something for nothing all the time runs along side the fact that dubstep is one of the only genres that has good sales figures from 12"s..

who gives a shit about some bait dj though.. i doubt theyre making money out of it.. maybe a couple of free pints for set

more importantly its the fastest way to get yourself blacklisted as a promoter, if you book DJ DumbAndDumber and he's playing out myspace rips to a packed venue.

Know the feeling, what can you do about it tho?

Only a month or so after my release came out the full vinyl rip was put up on torrent.

What can you do about it tho apart from being flattered?

Cool yeah just never upload anything ever again, if you can't at least make the £1.75 you would have made from selling it as an mp3 then life as a sucessfull dubstep producer just isn't worth it anymore, maybe introduce a tax on people visiting your myspace page so you get some money no matter what?

Mate, it's not exactly gonna have any effect is it.. some guy playing a shitty mp3 of your tune.. either the crowd will love it and not notice the 96kbps bit rate or they'll just be like 'hey this sounds like that dope distance tune from his myspace' and think nothing of it.

chill innit, we still love (some of) your music and im sure people are buying your records.

personally i would have thought that just putting something over the top promoting yourself slightly would either stop it or give you some self promotion if someone rips it and plays it out. At least people will know it is your tune and look out for it when it is released.

Would also assume the person ripping it would buy it in higher quality when it is released.

But agreed it is a shit thing to do

Why these guys are taking MP3s from Myspace pages? Are they idiots? They think it's possible to cheat people at the dancefloor?

Greg... Your music is great... My Demons have fantastic tunes! That "Ska" is my favourite... Planet Mu did a nice job... The vinyl artwork is sick... Well... That's why these guys are stealing you... Your music is amazing!

C**ts!!!

Same thing happens here, but I'm learning to just go with the flow now. If they want it that bad enough then they will get it one way or another.

It is a real pain in the arse though.

Big up anyhow bruv, your tunes are still the dopest. :Q:

I guess that's the "beauty and the beast" of the internet.

You've created a tune and within 5 minutes you can have it on your myspace for someone across the world to listen to.

But with every good there's a bad.

And it leaves it open to people getting hold of these tunes no matter what.

SO.. you could do it the old school way and leave your tunes up to word of mouth - no internet.
Or just accept that this is part of the internet's culture and is just what happens.

The same thing happened for Nero's remix of Blinded by the Lights.
The same thing happened for Skream's In For The Kill remix.
And look how MASSIVE these tunes got - both for the songs and artists.

Those were Myspace rips?

I thought you were just abusing the bitcrusher plugin.

newsflash

INTERNET = WORD OF MOUTH

Distance, that's pretty sketchy if they were genuinely stupid enough to play them out, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that no-one who plays a 2.30 minute long myspace mp3 rip is going to be getting any more gigs after that...

As for someone ripping the mp3 off your myspace i really don't see what the problem is there; is it any different from someone clipping the same tune out of a radio show and uploading the clip for their mates on a forum to ID?

Is it any different to putting the clip on their mp3 player to listen to on the way to work to see if they want to order the vinyl? I do that most thursdays, download the week's consignment of chemical-records mp3 clips, whack them on my mp3 player, listen to them on the tram on the way to work on a proper pair of headphones with a large coffee, and then email my order to my local shop when i get to work then delete the shitty little three minute low-bitrate clips when i get home in the evening; technically it's theft of course, and technically it's no different from what those chaps did with your myspace, but is it really wrong?

Don't get me wrong, nicking music is a tnuc's move, and it's even MORE of a tnuc's move if you intend to play it out - i mean, Michael Jackson fucked children but I doubt he ever nicked dubs,

I still think there's plenty of scope for a sense of mature proportionality about it all though...

I think the way you gotta think about it, is that these fools that are making these rips are probably the ones that are too tight to buy your records anyway. So let them have they're little game, and in the long run, you'll probably benefit from the extra promotion. And you never know, they might end up buying them anyway if they like them enough.

There is no excuse though for stealing to benefit from your hard work.

I was chatting to a producer the other day and he told me that the when he does a release, it's the tunes he gives away as 320's for free that he actually ends up selling more WAV's of on places like Beatport rather than the ones he doesn't give away....go figure!

Watermark your tunes to keep them safe, but please don't cut your nose off to spite your face by not uploading any more as we NEED to hear new stuff!!
