Yep it's in the recent 1.1.4 update
There'a also a new button in the lfo tab called position which i would turn on once the automation is written in to make smoother changes in the lfo speed

blkmsk wrote:ok - this is one of the best threads i've seen on here. but i've got to address what is maybe a bug? I dunno.

I am completely unable to get the 'automation event list' window to open.

i've got the manual out, it says the same thing you say. control+command+E

but it simply doesn't open. it just gives the error noise.

furthermore - the manual says it can ONLY be opened by hitting this key combo - WTF!

anybody else having this problem?
Make sure you have the track you want selected and the automation lane is up by pressing A

word, quantizing automation is a great tip. i've been fiddling with that manually forever and it's a pain

thanks guys. I thought it was because of the new update.

Now i'm getting quite obsessed with this automation event window - I'm doing just as you say, track selected, automation visable, but the best I can do is hit fn+option+E to get an automation window to open which has no data in it, but the name of the session (?)

here is a pic of what i mean -

That small box is just the current event data you have selected in the media tab to the right.

Right, two things:

close the media tab,

press control + Command + E whilst the track is selected and the automation lane is up.

Now if this isn't working check to see what the key command is for the event automation list and make sure it's activated. It should be control, command (the apple button) and E as standard - not the function key.

Big ups guys glad your finding this shit useful, i might post up some examples of what i actually use this technique for cos i don't actually do the wobble thing that much tbh. It's very useful for creating multi-stage envelopes and rhythmic automation.

@ blkmsk - hope you finally got that issue sorted let me know. Also looking at your arrangement, how come you have a midi note rolling over the top of another. I assume you have the synth set to mono (?)

@ Depone - flex edit is dope, you tried out the new fx in the space designer? Some nice shit in there.

This thread is all sorts of win, you have no idea... after a 3 month hiatus from production I am about to jump back into Logic and see if I can't finish a tune I abandoned.

awesome stuff dude, anyone know how i do automation in LIVE? i cant find where i would start drawing it in?

also does anyone know if its possible to use automation like this in live, in conjunction with a VST?

i want to automate my lfo sync rates with albino3 in live but seem to fail at using google and cant find info on live automation..

Live is ridiculously easy for automation just move the dial you want to automate, in this case the lfo frequency and you'll see in the arrangement view a kinky pinky line moving up and down - this is the automation for that parameter.
Then just go to the midi data you've written in a drag select a section you want to have at a different speed and move the pink line and it will go up or down in a boxed shaped:

Only thing i don't like is Albino - pain in the arse to automate the lfo freq with no sync

ay chewie, thanks for the help man. fantastic post -

I ended up having to re set the key command by hitting option+K and resetting the event automation list window to control+command+E

works great now!

and yeah, I had those notes in the pic drawn that way because the synth was set to mono. not neccesary though!

BTW LOGIC 9 = :Z:

EXACTLY what i was looking for

thx a lot.

I was wondering... do u keep a template of automation variations u could use for chopping somewhere. say u can bounce a basic drumtrack and then do that in that template and bounce it back ?

Also, will the quatizing work for synths which dont have quantized parameters like albino or massive 1.1.3 ( i own the .4 anyways but i was wondering)

thx

Chewie, awesome tutorial. When I saw this post, I was like oh chewie is at it again, but alas, this was the old chewie who graced us with his wisdom more often :)

For anyone who is trying to figure out which daw to buy, I encourage you to dl the flstudio demo and do what chewie did here in all these steps in logic, in about 2 steps in fl. Try it yourself, and see which program is easier and more fun to make music in.
