yup, 320 is pretty much as good as it gets, I can hear duff quality, anything below 192 I can usually hear something not right.

but the difference between a 320 and .wav to human hears is tiny, that's why nobody has a problem in playing out their mp3's in clubs because the audience can't tell, the d.j can't tell, the fuckin' audio engineer can't tell the difference

producers need to learn how to encode properly. a good LAME 3.97+ V2 encode will sound exactly the same as CBR320 and be much smaller in filesize.

webshops are the same. it is the same ignorance spread from webshop to producer and back again, until it becomes the standard.

if you really cared so much about maximum quality, then you'd use flac files instead.

this isn't a diss about producers giving away free tunes though - thats always a cool gesture. but fanboys who talk about 320 as the holy grail need to seriously clue themselves up.

this might be true, but assumes that all you want to do is play the track at its normal tempo. if you want to pitch it up or down, warp it in ableton etc then a 320 is the bare minimum, and really you need a wav.
