I Use FL 8, bad choice?

Dude, come on man. You need to knuckle down and learn to use it properly. I cant believe you have been using it for four years and have only produced tracks like the one posted.

1) Learn to mix your tunes. The mixdown on the one posted is gutless.
2) RTFM twice

Also there is a book called the "The FL Studio Bible" its quite expensive (about £40) but it covers EVERYTHING to do with FL. Google it man I found it invaluble.

i just started producing and i will say this i have like six friends that all started producing at about the same time i use fl studio one uses reason one logic one one pro tools and t so on and honestly my music is progressing faster then any one else in the crew you just got to learn everything you can about fl and you will be fine

and as someone in a earlier post said get the fl studio bible

Then the vst is worthless cause then you have to move the buttons and sliders. Thats work and thats no fun.

think about it this way...

you've spent 4 years getting comfortable with FL

that means it could take years to get comfortable with another program if you started over...granted a lot of knowledge carries over but still

just stick with FL

I'm an FL8 head. I've never given another program a proper go, but never felt limited by FL so I guess I've never had a reason to. Plus, once you've paid, you get lifetime free upgrades, can't say fairer than that.

Until recently I have been using FL5 (then I bought FL

- You can make excellent tracks in FL5, let alone 8.

I also used to think that it was FL holding me back (it didn't help that people would bag the shit out of FL even though they hadn't used it before). I tried moving to Cubase, but was incredibly disheartened by once more becoming a total noob. So I thought "fuck it" and went back to fruity, and over time my skillz got better. I realised that it's to do with your skills, and not your equipment. More VSTs, samples etc isn't going to help if you don't know the nuts and bolts!

I don't know about you lot but CPU overruns are a pain in the arse and the biggest inhibitor to me doing what i want to do in my DAW.

As much as I'd like to use all the fanciest ish (DAWs, VSTs) I am normally pretty poor and my pc aint great (although its dedicated to music now).

I would say look at your biggest limiting factor - for me its my skills and my pc - and pick a DAW which will work WITH those limitations.

I used a few too and everything mans is saying here is bang on - its an old cliche but you can use any program if you learn it and get used to it (for me this normally takes the same time - "bedding in" - with new DAWs anyway).

Your chops and mix make 1,000,000,000 times more difference to your final sound than your kit - truss!
