Excellent, nice to see some intelligent debate for a change. For anyone that thinks it's not down to the individual and should be down to governments and business to sort out, you really should check yo'self before you wreck yo'self and everybody else. You can vote (for the limited amount of use that has) and you can make informed choices.
FYI - the carbon footprint allowance for a year is a one-way ticket from Britain to Canada - and that means no heating and no heating for the rest of the year. If you're using more than that then you're part of the problem.
The carbon treaties that are being agreed as Elgato said are for 2050, but seeing as some predictions are pointing towards problems kicking in much earlier, that's way too late.

Just can't wait to be charged carbon taxes...
Majority of scientists agree that the massive increase in climate change is man made - sure there are people that are looking to make money out of this too (always some arseholes), but listening to the few (generally business backed) naysayers isn't going to help.tempest wrote: FYI - Goverment/media hype.

Yeah sorry bruv the way I put that was pure arseholism... To be honest i'm not a scientist myself and even they can't agree on whats going on so I don't know what we/I can do that is going to help...Shonky wrote:Majority of scientists agree that the massive increase in climate change is man made - sure there are people that are looking to make money out of this too (always some arseholes), but listening to the few (generally business backed) naysayers isn't going to help.tempest wrote: FYI - Goverment/media hype.

Just pisses me off that as with anything in the developed world atm, the cycle of media hype, masses hype up, fat cats make dosh/persue whatever they are aiming for, just keeps on going round and round..
There's actually a pretty reasonable level of concensus between scientists on some this stuff - but it just doesn't come through in the media. Largely because scientists are often poor at communicating their messages as well as some well funded campaigns by people on the other side of the coin who can.tempest wrote:Yeah sorry bruv the way I put that was pure arseholism... Yeah, know what you're saying. Seems like every good cause has some exploiter on the back of it. Heard that a lot of fair trade basically goes to local elites and the original owners have been brought out by the megabucks. Even if I boycott companies I dislike, dare say my tax money will subsidize them somehow or other in business incentives and tax cuts.tempest wrote:Just pisses me off that as with anything in the developed world atm, the cycle of media hype, masses hype up, fat cats make dosh/persue whatever they are aiming for, just keeps on going round and round..
Do what we can to reduce their money and power base I think.
Hmm....

But unfortunately i'm pretty much all talk even tho i'd like to do what i'm saying... Ultimately because it's been made pretty much impossible for me to own land in my area(or most areas in australia) because of affordability... No excuses tho, i'll get on the veggie patch asap
Wish I could afford a flat with a garden, and had a job that meant that I could buy local fruit and veg that didn't cost 3 times the price supermarkets charge. It is shit how something so necessary just becomes a bigger profit margin for opportunist stnuc.tempest wrote:For real...
Perhaps we all have to revert back to hunting and gathering... or at least farming our own fruit, veggies and meat... try and be self-sufficient instead of relying on the convienience of the world at the mo
Hmm....

i love it when i leave a lighthearted thread and come back to it a day later to find it has become a behemoth that bites at the core of the philosophical debate around human nature.
