Experience for me is still BIG. It was basically my first love of music that wasn't something my parents had played to me. MFTJG is better though (listening to it now )

Definitely. I had no concept of selling out either, I could only see it with the power of hindsight and by being schooled by my brother-in-law.
Also, are you talking about this

I think if it had come out when I was 8, I probably would've had a different opinion - hearing any music at that age leaves a lasting impression (Hell, I still have a softspot for Betty Boo)... but I was given Experience by my eldest brother at 10 and Jilted Generation when I was 12... I pretty much learnt and fell for electronic music through listening to tapes of those albums on earphones at school when my mates were listening to 2 Unlimited, Reel 2 Real and Ace Of Base - they were full of love hand in hand with anger - love for the people around you, anger at those that want to stop the love... they contained sounds, ideas and rhythms I didn't even understand yet... my fragile mind really was torn apart.
I was 15 when I bought FOTL... practically beside myself with excitement that I'd get their new album before my brothers in a way that only a 15 year old about to buy a CD by his favourite act can be. It was 2 years after Goldie released Timeless and More Rockers released Dub Plate Selection Vol. 1... Jungle had swept in and touched everything around it, Bristol was starting to rock to its own take on Jungle/DnB. I remember getting home, putting it on and thinking it just sounded violent... all the love had gone... it was 2D where they'd previously been 3D. Whoever it was for, it wasn't for me... then when I was old enough to go clubbing it twigged... Experience and Jilted Generation were made with illegal raves, ecstasy, acid and the Criminal Rights Bill in mind.... Fat Of The Land was made with cans of Stella Artois, Ministry Of Sound and football-shirted ravers in Ibiza in mind.
I don't think they sold out worse than anyone else... it's just it came at exactly the right time to disappoint me. I've never really recovered.

That was very well put!
Don't knock Ace of Base though, fam!! They were BITG!
As for the "love hand in hand with anger" - i've got MFTJG on now and as I was reading your post it went from No Good to One Love /

One love is the tune that no one ever seems to mention but was always the percy for me

I had my first 'going down' experience to the background sounds of "I saw the sign... it opened up my eyes..." my girlfriend had it on CD and used it to blare out the sound of the dirty deed. Can't even hear that tune now without automatically thinking of my first bushy lunch. aceLAD

Magma's post about FOTL perfectly describes how excited i was to get hold of a copy of Darude - Sandstorm. I had no brothers to teach me about music

I had no family to influence my music taste as I was younger...I still don't even know how I turned out like I am.
I was fairly sheltered in regards to any music outside of the top 40.
