Damnson!
That is good news!
TRACKS TO ME FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE!
Feel bad, slacking on TUNA! Studio will be up soon though. Desk built, power run, have to do a ceiling, trying to close a deal on a mixer. NWJ is coming hard in 2015.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
Bud: I'm listening to these on the train, the vibes were unreal. Loving that tune, I think its good as it is but maybe I just want to hear more
.
Defaultuzer: the same as with buds tune amazing vibes especially when watching the welsh country side roll past. I think maybe you could have some more subtle sounds in the midrange cos it feels like there's a gap in the mids. Maybe just pull back your high passes or something

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
It's happening RIGHT NOW!
Just have to find an mechanic to check out this suv I'm tryina buy... All I want to do is fucking record this song. Getting such sweeeeeet highs out of tape. You can't hold me to this because the sound is getting away from me, but I might be able to get it back, but getting some straight up Mt. Kimbie sounds. You know their high end? I've always loved it.
Exactly how I'm supposed to get off tape, and back into digi and up to sc is a bridge I ignored... don't know exactly how I'm gonna do that.... hummm, maybe can find my zoom h4n, that'd get me digitized. Just don't want to lose this high end.

No, the highs were more clear, but not piercing.
So, I got a text, switched over to text app, came back, and a days worth of tweaking and sequencing was gone. The stupid korg ipoly6 app reset itself. Cunty mother fucker.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
so the idea is to run something through tape to get more warmth out of it right
could it maybe work to run something through a cheap tape recorder like the old walkmans stuff
and mix both signals to get maybe a clean but still bit tapesc sound cause i def cant affort a real tape machine

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
I could have been raised where a chair is called a chaise, but I'm just a lucky boy.
I don't know hubb. I don't have enough experience. One, I was making all my sounds in ipoly6, which sounds really good. The highs I was getting, was not even onto tape, but merely through the portastudio circuitry, heavily, but not stupidly driven.
Also using a tube pre.
But, it has long been a quest, which I've very nearly realized a couple of times, but I'd really like to get my hands on an Otari:

And really dive into this.
I'd much rather get all my gear setup, through and AH mixer and session into tape.
I like what I can do in a daw, but it seems, it will never be reconciled, I'll never reconcile with a daw. I just am way more interested in what I'm doing when I'm not in an arrange page, when I'm hands on.
So cliche, but I just want to run analog synths into tape. That is just the sound I think I like. Like it just tickles me. It is what I want to hear.
Even from a few years ago, tape is just getting harder and harder to find, more and more expensive. I'm not cool with that. I swear I'm going to start grinding up chromium oxide and gluing it to strips of plastic. Boutique tape. I feel like tape is terminal, like really is winding up now (no pun). But I really do think things sound better going into tape.
Agh, too few hours of sleep. Verbal diarrhea. Enjoy.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
From what I know of you waffle, it is not your sound. You seem to love a very clean, very digital sound. I can tell you're into it. I don't think tape is for everyone. I think you're fortunate, because we are in your age, your horizons are open.Aufnahmewindwuschel wrote:so the idea is to run something through tape to get more warmth out of it right

We have left my age and all the gear I want to work with is crumbling into rusty dust.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
lol might be true but i cant know if i dont try
on the other hand as a listener i do enjoy the warmth of analog more than this really bright trap/brostep
edm sound

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
Well, start to simulate it at least. Check out Variety of Sound, they have really good free plugs. Start building digitally replicated analog signal chains. Simulate a mixer, the mixer's preamp, sim some tape. It isn't the same, but it is a start down that road.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
yeah man i got the variety use them occasionally but not like in terms of recreating an "older" feeling to sth
never thought about it taht way like actually putting them in line to get the old effect chains :3
but ok when you say mixer you talking about a real mixing board isnt that the job of the daw to be the mixer.
like it would be a pc running inside a pc
never heard about a recreated actual mixing board tbh

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
Yeah mate, there are plugins that simulate mixing boards. Boards have a sound. Opamps have a sound, the summing has a sound.
Maybe do a little research, learn a bit about how an old fashioned recording studio worked. How the signal flowed. Then replicate that signal flow with vst's.
Start with synth, then into a preamp, maybe some tracking compression, eq, then into a mixer, out the mixer into tape. You're going to pick up noise/character/compression at every stage.
The thing is, those simulations as good as they are, don't really match what happens in real life. On the low end of analog, things are going to sound smaller, less articulate, etc. But that is life. High end analog, things start to sound bigger, clearer, open, spacious.
But my caveat, I really don't think any of this nonsense is for you. Everything I've heard out of your is very clean and digital.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
yeah nono i know that people like this compressor for this sound and that reverb for that etc
but like a real mixing board wouldnt that be too complex to work inside a daw in terms of cpu etc
(you got a link to which you think is a good example? like the whole purpose would be to get the exact sound/warmness/feeling as the real counterpart cause it cant be for what it actually does which is mixing and eq sends etc (unless it does all this way more appropiate)
but yeah i agree i guess if you do it you need to do it for real atleast after the synth stage

It is a vst that sits on your channels and your master.
There are others:

http://sonimus.com/products/satson/
Satson is cheap, like $40 I think.
Also, variety of sound does have a couple of console channel plugs if I recall correctly. Never really used them.

^k thanks
lol i guess there are digital mixing boards after all
yeah i guess i will try around with the variety more for now and see how they might affect my sound

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
I'm with you all the way dudes .
My uncle who used to be a mixing engineer swears to those wheelie tapes too, natural compression etc - never got around to try it out myself..
but
next step should be getting it on to a tape and then burying it in a hole in the ground for a few days and get that mother earth comp going
something about what cold does to the magnetic tape, that will further compress it..
proper voodoo bizz
Can't find the link I want but later...
