@ SesG

Really like tha main synth good use of panning really gives it some space

The purcussion is really good helps to drive it along and keep that pace.

I think the sub could maybe come down in volume a tad? and that main synth can get a bit overpowering at times i think
I would maybe have a few different drum hits that stand out a bit more, the percussion can tend to merge into one a little, maybe thats just my ears.
Like cloak and dagger said, some more silence wouldn't go a miss, maybe a bit more of a quiter, less spacey breakdown, something that feels a little more intimate and controlled.

@ Depone if you want some feedback i shall attmept to oblige :D

I think the vocal could stand out a little more, i'd try maybe some subtle side chaining to other elements and see if that helps to bring it forward a bit
Also when the vocal goes away and the other section comes in, i think that can become a little repetetive, maybe have an alternate rhythm for the bass at some point?

@ cloak and dagger

i would like to hear some more variation in the hi hats, like a bar at the end of each 4 or 8 bar phrase that is way simpler than the main pattern, even just a 1 2 3 4 then back in the main rhythm
I think the bass could come up a little in the mix
Also i think it would be interesting to hear some kinda droney vowel-eque vocal type sample (or any sort of pad/drone type sound) dropped in and out to fill out the mid range a bit, it feels a bit like theres really nice bass, really nice treble, but the midrange is lacking, theres a bit of a hole in the middle
Overall though i like it, great rhythm, great pace, some really nice sounds going on with the synths
On the whole though i reall like it

Right, here is a new one from me. I'm at a really great place at the moment where i'm really starting to be pleased with what im turning out, and every track i complete feels like a definate improvement on the last, so here is one i just finished today, i also worked quite hard at the mix here so some comments on that would be nice, cheers :e:

Hi, cheers for the feedback, im probs gonna make a second version of that track sometime soon and will bear your advice in mind.

For this song all of the main elements fit together nice, especially like the spacey FX towards the end of the track that swoosh all over you.

The stabby synth sounds good, especially with the effects variation - however my main problem with the track is that it would be completely impossible to dance to, the beat and synth seem to skip over one another - and whilst that would sound good if it were part of the song it goes on throughout the entire thing. My advice would be shorten the first section, break down, and then after the build up have the synth on beat and liven up the drums and it might add alot to the tracks composition.

lol are you reading my mind or something?

This is exactly what i was thinking about when making this.
A lot of stuff i make isn't particularly angled towards the dancefloor, and i really like that kinda of off-kilter rhythm that keeps you thinkin. this is more intended for a sit down and chill rather than something to "get yo skank on" to, but i always think about getting into for dance orientated stuff, but then i think fuck it, i'll just make what i wanna hear :D lol

thanks a lot for the feedback though, it is something that i will bare in mind, maybe this gives me the opurtunity to make a "dance edit" :D

This is pretty much my first full track using purely reason, i spent a fair amount of time on it and it'd be cool to get some constructive criticism on it
thanks:)

Well I guess so long as you were aware of that when you were producing. Only thing that I would add is that dubstep is still a dance genre at its core, I come from the drum & bass side of things so probably place more emphasis upon it. Also if you dont have a bit that people can imagine dancing to you lose alot of impact (imo), and if there were to be a switch up you might get a really good reaction (as best demonstrated by Skream's remix of la Roux in For the Kill - people are stepping to it and the just go crazy, even in normal clubs). Props to you for doing something differrent though mate, that is in no way a bad thing :t:

I really like the stuttering on the percussion here. It's obv not meant to be a dancefloor tune, but it works well as a listen at home sort of track. Although I bet you probs could dance like a loon to it if you wanted to haha. I really like it nice work :D

@jstick: I'm not really capable of giving reasonable feedback but I really really like the "mhhhhh ahhhhh" vocals after the drop till the first small break. I think a bit more reverb or general more air and volume to them could do good. As it is right now, it is rather simple, a wobble and the vocals and the beat, maybe emphasize on the vocals more, like add some delay at the end of every other bar or something like that. The part after the first big bar was rather dull but I definitely like the idea and where this could be going!

listening on headphones...

drums feel like they could be a bit punchier, and some of the little snare edits feel a bit awkward, i like the hats though. some nice synths in there, the wobbly one in the background feels to me like it either needs to be more prominent, or pushed back somewhat.
nftfhx wrote: Soundcloud
intro feels a little dead if you know what i mean? hihat sticks out a fair bit in particular, i'd suggest taking some of the low out of it and maybe sticking some reverb or delay on it. drums sound a bit wrong, they need a bit more presence imo, maybe find some better samples, and a bit of distortion/compression probably wouldnt hurt. not really feeling the bass too much, gets a bit irritating, also sounds like theres too much reverb on it. some of the little piano keys (or whatever they are) in the background could come up a bit.
jstick wrote:Soundcloud
i quite like the little intro with the vocals, feels too verbed out though, really pushed back. when the drums come in they dont cut through at all, need some work - particularly the snare. the 2nd vocal thing (aretha franklin i assume) doesnt fit as well imo. not to into the stuttery stuff. wobbles could be a bit crunchier perhaps. the second triplety bit with the relentless kick drums is a bit much too imo. i kind of like the old skooly vibe on this.
sarkz wrote:Soundcloud
intro sounds a bit euro trance - not really my cuppa. drums sound fucked at first, dont get too much better when you bring in the other layers. ok, dubstep changeup was well unexpected. bit overly voweled up/bitcrushed - but to your credit its making me laugh! it gets a bit relentless though. im not sure the vowely dubstep bit and the trancey/old skool thing work with eachother, sounds like 2 seperste tracks that have been mashed together.

check out my track and let me know what you think... still looking to improve my low end by far i think.

Soundcloud
sounds a touch muddy at the beginning, cant put my finger on why, too much delay maybe? drums need to be forward more when they come in imo, snare is a bit cack. sorry man, the drop is really horrid, dont think i can take much more of it... i think youve gone a bit ott with the white noise sweeps too.
gabbo wrote:Bumping mine, give it a chance :)

Soundcloud
wicked sample at the beginning! well until bob comes in, either just keep it as the english dude, or just bob...
nice little chords. intro goes on a bit with not much happening, try introducing some extra elements, add some little noises here and there, etc. very nice when it comes in, very laid back. drums are nice, feels like they could have more presence though, again a bit of distortion or compression should sort it. nice pads, arrangement could do with some sprucing up, just introduce a few more elements here and there - it feels very sparse to me. some of the little vocal snippets would sound good with loads of dubby delay on them.

snare is a bit gammy, too much verb on it ino. drums are quite forward though which is good! the sample is fucking gay, thats all i can say about it :P not feeling the hard house thing to be honest, little gabba-esque filtered kicks are quite cool though. daaa, sorry i dont think i can tolerate this any more dude, reminds me too much of ropey hardcore

@ jaydot for light a rainbow

Nice unusual (for dubstep) vox - however am getting alot of crackling (hopefully just soundcloud being rubbish), sub warmth comes in nicely, and hat/shaker sets the tone nicely, as does the piano.

I would have to say imo, not a dubstep tune per se, and does get boring as there is very little which changes within it. A change in drums, piano, smooth synths would differentiate the track into different sections.

@ z6z

Wasn't really feeling that one until about a minute in when the piano riff changes, its got a really sweet groove to it, especially like the kick rolls. Sub exists but could defeintely have more flavour to it, those wobbly changes as well sound too clicky and would definetly be improved with extra definition. Overall liked it alot though, felt like a song at the circus!

@ the dub lemon

I'm with 'user avatar gravity' sample makes me want to kill myself

Here's a second version I Don't Want to Fall Asleep with peoples comments taken on board, I think it's a much better composition this time around - my flat mate had a big grin on his face after the breakdown where the drums change, hope everyone else appreciates it :) (P.S. crackles @ 1.09 are soundcloud rape i think as i dont get it in my DAW)

Thanks for the feedback! I actually had a pad in there earlier, but I thought it sounded too busy and wanted a sparser sound. I've been listening to a lot of old DMZ recently, that probably has something to do with it. I'm not sure about turning the bass up, it was shaking the shit outta my apartment this morning :P

Anyway, I uploaded a newer version of the tune that I'm happier with here if anybody's interested. Less wobble, more groove: Soundcloud

As for your tune, I really dig it! I agree that the stuttery percussion is a little weird; it works sometimes but doesn't need to be there as much as it is. I would stick to a more regular groove and just do the stutters every 16 bars or so, and it would be a really good dancefloor track. I disagree with whoever said the wobbly synth should be brought to the front more, I think it works way better in the background where it is right now. The only other suggestion I have is that it sounds like there's too much reverb, or the reverb needs to be low-passed a little, because overall it could sound a little clearer, especially when all of the sounds are playing and the percussion is busier.
