got a bit jealous of all the BB hype so we started watching a series last night....
House of Cards - bloody hell, rarely been so engaged by a new series from the first episode, awesome plot, acting, fiming, random first person narration from Spacey etc

So, 5 years after posting this... I think I finally get The Sopranos. It's actually fucking sick and I'm embarrassed for my former self.

the only part is disliked about the sopranos is the shrink, must've skipped through most of her "sessions" after she got groped or smth (can't remember what happened but something did)

Yeah, I was a big fan of the original series too. I really enjoyed the first episode of the Spacey one, but my girl didn't quite warm to it so next time she goes away I'm going to session the shit out of it in between speedballs.

Love Sons of Anarchy, starts to get really really good by season 2, very hard to just watch one episode at a time!

Anyone been watching the new series of Eastbound & Down? Not as good as it used to be, but still more than enough laughs to keep me watching

Oooh.. didn't even realise Season 4 had started. I'm still getting WAGoMagma up to speed with series 1!

Love me some Kenny Powders.

Gave up on Eastbound, got really really shit really quickly. Enjoyed the first 2 series.

House of Cards is brilliant, finished the first series recently.. on to Band of Brothers now. Had the boxset for like 2 years and never got round to watching it.. half way through and its really good.

Sons of Anarchy is addictvely entertaining, but the actors are not very great. It can be kinda cheesy with silly action and cheap love-drama shit. But overall it's really good and no other show does the motorcycle gang thing as well.

Sopranos... think about the context. This show aired like what, 1999-2007? It ended half a decade ago. At the time, people thought it was the best show ever. A lot of people probably would still agree. I think part of it is that, in America, the "mobster film" has always been a favorite pastime. Maybe it's not like that in UK, but Americans love that shit. And there was never a really great mobster series before Sopranos. And people also loved how they balanced Tony's mobster side with his incredibly vulnerable therapy side. How far are you into it? Or did you already finish it?

Yeah, I think a lot of the "best show ever" stuff was just a symptom of it being one of the first TV series with production levels comparable to Hollywood movies... we've kind of got used to that now with Boardwalk Empire, The Wire and all the other hugely funded (and hugely profitable) US series.

It took me this long to just get the format tbh. When I first watched the Sopranos, I remember thinking "OK, well, that's cool, but I've got to watch a whole season of this to finish the story? I think I'll just watch Goodfellas again." but having eased myself into lengthy TV series through a combination of Boardwalk Empire, The Borgias and finding a girl to have a nice cotch with, I've given it another go and it's EXCELLENT.

I've only just started the second series. I've got a whole winter of mob dopeness ahead of me.
