You dont have to buy a Technics 1200 to listen to/record vinyl. I have seen brand new USB turntables for 40 pound.
I guarantee you can get a 2nd hand one for cheaper, or quite possibly your grandmother has one sitting in her garage from her old Hifi.

Mh, to me it was never about Swamp doing vinyl only, I like that, own a sweet turntable and whatnot and as mentioned I bought most of Swamp's releases, to me it's about this horrible limitation. You bring out one of the nicest vinyl of the year and make only 500 people listen to it? That is just not going to work. I don't wanna give some dude on discogs 40 € to get ONE vinyl.

Buying some records today is more of a speed competition. You don't reaaallllly have a chance of finding these releases while digging through shops, it's about being on time with preorders before hearing it or ordering it the day it comes out.

i can understand the frustration from people who don't own decks but this is the way loefah wants to run his label and u have to respect that, end of.

As I said on another thread, producers/labels don't need to cater to your every little whim. Perfect example was given in an earlier post, about how you like your neighbours car, but can't afford one/they've sold out, you aren't just going to go and steal a car, but music is different apparently.

Look, the producers and labels have put the time and effort into producing it, mix downs, getting it mastered, getting it cut and shipping it out, in my opinion, it's entirely up to them what medium they want to sell it on. If you like it as much as you say you do, go and find a cheap turntable (they do exist) and play it to your hearts content.

Not everybody can get everything they want all the time.

@ Ghost Hardware, I get ya bro. Its even sillier if real music lovers have to rush in to get the limited press before horders buy 10 copies and put them at discogs double the price the next day.

The 500 press thing I think is to do with being cost effective. I could be wrong here but it might be a bracket type thing of getting vinyl pressed. Say the demand for one record is about 600 people. You either have the option to press 500 or 1000, which would you choose?

Many of the lads running labels are pretty realistic that lots of niche tunes arent gonna sell much more than 500 copies so they would be losing out to press anymore and have excess stock sitting around collecting dust. However Im sure that if the demand is enough, once they have sold the first 500 and they feel confident they could sell another 500, they do so.

Unfortunately I think that is just the current state of vinyl sales, and people arent willing to take risks on doing big runs if they dont know for sure it'll sell that well. I guess they are already sticking their neck out enough just to get their money back on doing 500 initially.

I dont know if this was the motivation behind the Limited Press of the FaltyDL 12" or not, but im pretty sure someone who runs a label on this forum will have covered this whole thing already.

Spot on. But that's how it is, and it's just a fact that it's harder to play with vinyl, it's more a comfort for bigger djs who don't want to drag everything, imo understandable.

I buy all the swamps that i like, i was also a couple of pages ago also pretty pissed for no digital release, but i've accepted it. Now you'd think i wouldn't need to rip these, but i'm scared already for future damages on parties with one of them. I'd rather have beer spilled over my mac than my boddika ep...

Worst of it all is that some of the rips are better than my own

I do wonder why Swamp only pressed 500 copies of that release in the first place? and labeled them 'for promotional use only'? wonder if it had anything to do w/Falty being signed to mu-ziq and them not wanting him to have a full-blown release on swamp??? glad i was able to snag a copy anyway

I asked this question on the thread for that release and I then a few people started having a go at me telling me to mind my own business and telling me that Loefah and swamp 81 can do what they want. LOL. Losers

what i mean is, despite the fact that they could easily spread the music further by selling it digitally, they do vinyl only, like they're trying to recreate the culture of the past where the music was restricted from spreading because of a lack of means to spread it. but today they have the means to spread the music but they choose not to, cos they're fucking gay and want to create some exclusive niche shit like its fucking 2004 SMH

i wanted to start buying vinyl, looked in the loft and bam, perfectly good one from a hi-fi system and i was away.
i like the vinyl exclusive releases also because it encourages people to get more into the physical music rather than just illegally downloading everything...
