not to toot my labelmate's horn (wow... no homo on that one), but secret agent gel is building some truly nasty funky bits these days.

so many of these new tunes are obviously carnival/calypso/soca influenced. that shuffle beat is so recognizable.
really? I must be listening to the wrong stuff, then; everything I've heard is all pounding bang-crash-wallop drums with no skip to them at all. plenty of crescendoing bongos and tom toms mind you

it's obviously got something, seeing how much everyone at fwd was enjoying it, but to my ears it's worlds away from garage or dubstep - is that the point?

Not so much kodes tracks, but some of the other stuff I heard on the rinse shows is certainely calypso melodies and the snares on 3&4.
At the end of the day, you don't need to feel that you're missing out bro. Either you like it or you won't :)

looks like a lot of ppl want to know and talk more about Funky...
so i thought maybe it would be good idea to make this thread sticky to make that easier..
as well as make future Funky discussions and knowledge more concentrated. :)

wouldnt it be worth doing these threads in the Other Music section, I just dont think its a great look when people come on the forum and the apparently most important threads are about Funky House and wierd hip hop, as much as I appreciate both...

Everyone knows that funky is the most interesting thing about dubstep right now

Give or take whether Rusko ruined it or not and if Burial is more of a pepsi or coke man

this may be true..

but way to make the kind of youthful energetic new heads the scene needs confused!

like I said I like both, especially Funky, but there are loads of people discussing and sharing info on this stuff in the other music forum and there is also loads of brilliant dubstep releases this month which deserve stickys ;)

to be fair, there are nowhere near as many people discussing Funky in the Other Music forum than there are in this thread.

I think we wanted to encourage a little discussion/cross pollination on the main forum to maximise the spread of knowledge, but still keep it all in one place.

As always, we're experimenting with things on the forum!

These people need confusing though, its that single-minded, enthusiastic zealotry which needs a counterbalance. I think its good that people come on a dubstep forum & get info about other (related) sounds rather than just a gang of people all yelling DUBSTEP!! YAH!!! at each other.

Good on you dubway (& moderating crew) keeping the forum growing/moving in interesting ways!
