Burial - Untrue LP - Mercury Awards 2008 Nomination
My last sayon the matter...
...Estelle has more than paid her dues, anyone who knows about Hip-Hop in this country will tell you that. So she's now getting paid and working with top American proiducers - fair play, UKHH is boring as these days, I don't blame her.

This is a tune. Anyting Hi-Tek touches turns to gold in my opinion.
Yeah, and Burial should have won.
And Elbow are dull.
The End

You're some durkhead.Ashley wrote: Shes a dickhead and only did one good song called 1980 and a few wicked bits with Faithless such as Why Go (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1tmWjZ8b588). Everything else is utter wank.
If Burial wasn't going to win, then Adele should have. At least her music is half decent.
How can rate Adele over Estelle!? Are u taking the piss? There is no comparison. (even with Estelle's mersh stuff)
Like my man Merkin says do your homework before u run ur mouth.
Elbow my arse!
Keysound Recordings, Rinse FM, http://www.blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com, sub, edge, bars, groove, swing...
I'm pleased Elbow won. A couple of them drink in my local and are nice lads I don't think their music is that bad either; so I am pleased for em. (am I meant to slag them off though because burial didn't win?!)
At least burial wont have the curse of the Mercury prize hanging over him
Radiohead should've won though

Kanye West was good until he started working on his second album.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that Elbow don't deserve the bludgeoning that they're recieving on here. I haven't actually heard the new LP as yet, but their earlier material was earnest and musically refined stuff that I was really into at the time. Their debut LP, 'Asleep In The Back', could actually be compared to Burial in its sense of downbeat inner city nostalgia, and still stands up nowadays as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, the so called 'indie' music that finds its way into the mainstream nowadays is (for the majority of acts) diluted pap, but I don't believe that that criticism could be levelled at Elbow. Decent live band, too.
As stated earlier, Burial was never going to win it if he wasn't going to turn up, but to be fair, he's already won as far as increased exposure and album sales go.

last night i was doing a search of roni size. I couldn't remember if he was the "favorited" that year or not. i could've sworn that the roni album was an upset.
well, i remembered right. roni size won over radiohead (the bookies favorite that year; with the ok computer album) and even the prodigy's (fat of the land...classic album).
article from The independent ,1997, the day after the mercury that year.

i guess the bookies have got it wrong for years.

100% agree with this statement, the guys album was on the top shelf of the front entrance of HMV when I last went in and like a previous article has mentioned his album sales have rocketed up by 361% already and after last night and all the hype over him they are only going to increase more in theory. So he didnt win the title and missed out on a £20,000 cheque, im sure the next time his royalty cheque comes through the post he will have a big smile on his face.Richard Carnage wrote:Burial was never going to win it if he wasn't going to turn up, but to be fair, he's already won as far as increased exposure and album sales go.

Its called an opinion. Please read the bits in bold.ThinKing wrote:what a ridiculous thing to say!! Looking at their reaction to it I'm happy they won. Burial couldn't even be bothered to show up so shows what it meant to him. Still, the album got a lot of free publicity off the back of it and reached a wider audience so all good really.
