I want in on this...
Who do I send tracks to? And are there any restrictions/guidelines other than getting it done in under a week? Saturday night deadline?

sorry for the late feedback, here goes:

Damnson: really liking what you got so far, good work on the drums and that squarewavish bassline. sort of reminds me of samiyam. i feel there's something missing though, i'd add another element on top, vocals would be an option, maybe just incidentals here and there, possibly some stabs or something? also, obviously could be 1 or 2 min longer

Buddy: surprising coming from you, really like that glitch hop tip with a budspencer sauce. aha funny you said Damnson's tracks is too wonky, i feel yours should be more wonky :P like get some of these drum hits of the grid, throw add in some random weird incidentals moments a la nowaysj too

@Rizlo
I feel like I just infiltrated the underground base of a race of primal machines responsible for wiping out 87% of mankind. They haven't spotted me yet, but it's not looking good. It's hard for me to rate the track as a song, but as a vibe and technical sort of ambient showpiece I think it's pretty sweet. Really difficult for me to provide production feedback as well since it's so artistic and not as clear-cut as, say, a garage tune would be etc.

@Bud

You know I'm a fan of your stuff. I love the "non-musical" percussive sounds you've made into music. Sounds like doors closing etc. Obviously the vocal processing is on point as usual. I could see this as the closing track on an album. I'd love to hear some pretty pads with white-noise toward the end as a sort of build-up before the closing, but it's good as is. All the volume levels are perfect The second tune gripped me right away, though. Kaltar is sweet. Don't even want to tell you to change anything.

@Knob
Well, it's not something I'd normally just put on and listen to, but much like Rizlo's tune, I picture it as being more cinematic... either backing a zombie movie or some sort of future action movie. I could actually even see a loop of it being used as an intro to some sort of progressive IDM stuff with vocals. Man, you guys are tough to give mix down feedback to! None of this stuff is "traditional" really and I love it, haha.

@Faultier
And of course as I type that, this ultra-musical hip hop beat drops on me. Really awesome stuff; sounds like someone made a 90's hip hop beat with late 2000's production quality. Even without rapping over it, it makes me bob my head, and it doesn't overstay its welcome at the minute and a half length. Honestly can't think of any mix down tips without really stretching. Everything is punchy, has its own space, and works in harmony with the other instruments.

@General
Dude, I want to hear 48 seconds ish onward underneath some nice airy female vocals for some reason. I wouldn't even keep this as a remix, I'd turn that second half into its own thing because there's so much potential there. Please find some legit vocalists for that ASAP.

@NWJ
That is absolutely ridiculous and chaotic, reminds me of some like mid-90's electronic experimentation or something. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take to get the tune to that state if you can remember? Seems like it would be time consuming. I don't listen to a lot of technical stuff anymore, but I know quite a few personal friends whose heads would explode from all the shit going on(in a good way).

Page 111!

Today! I think today is the day I get my monitors up, and computer booted up.

Reading Danny's feedback, I can't wait to properly listen to these tracks.

Danny: I used to be very very energetic and worked very hard on those songs way back when. My dog used to sleep outside of my window. I blasted my toons on ns10's, and I'd work untill he'd have doggy nightmares, twitching and yelping in his sleep.

I've got two more of those songs on that cd, and maybe a hundred or so more on my old pc. I did have a hard drive failur back I the day, lost 6 months of work, I thought that was major back then... I plan on trying to boot that old machine and seeing what's on there.

@Rizlo: Im really into this. The sound design is really great and I love the disjointed rhythmic parts. I feels like it would be really great to have apart with really heavy and intense drums as a contrast to the sparse broken up thing you have going on thru out, as well as maybe a few more synth parts in the background to keep the atmospherics moving along. dig it

@Bud: Really lush atmosphere. The synths are nice and understated while still being interesting and detailed. "Drum"s sounds are on point too. Im generally not a fan of this kind of vocal processing, but it works well in this context. Of the two I like Am Beat Unimog Cut better. The swing and rhythmic push/pull on the drums is pretty unique.

@Faultier: Nice hiphop beat! The samples all work well together. Too short though! I would love to hear that track with a vocalist on it.

@DannyFloyd: I like the sounds of the atmosphere and bass, but im not really digging the drums, mostly the closed high hat sound and the rhythm its playing. It feels too loud and super stiff. Maybe velocity automation and swing to help it not feel so rigid. Overall the beat fells like it needs more texture to me, but as you can see from my track, I'm into maybe too much color and texture on drums :)

@GeNRL: That sample had me lol'ing. Love the pumping feeling you've got going on. The interplay between the bass and the beat is really delicious

@NWJ: Rad track! im surprised that you are not into SP because parts of this almost sound like a Download track. Anyway, I hope the gods will let you get your studio back up and running. The 2015 promo track was also first rate

Damn , I have no energy for individual crits, but everyone's tunes this week were all individually vibey. Some really great stuff all around.

Bonus big ups to grandpa noways diggin out and dusting off the crust on that old gem. I can hear your nubile passion in those edits.

@ronzlo
i dig this kind of noisesc music but i feel you could mayb clean out your sounds tiny bit more
the low bassdrum for example maybe layer it with a clean sub? and keep the nice distortions on top
i like the fast percussion parts would like to hear a longer section of those(one is at 1.41-1.44)
yaeh i think the only thing distracting me is the bit muffled lowend bassdrum

@knobgoblin
similar vibe
bit cleaner more defined than the first one but the first one. i think its cause the sounds are put more into the stereofield? def like this one (liked the first one too though just this seems further developed)
those little wobble basses add alot. reminds me of some old scorn and bit lorn.
yeah pretty solid tune with those melodies coming in later. i would say this one needs a real intense ambient section somewhere i think its too much drums after a while for me

@defaultuzr
again i am not a big hip hop fan instrumentals and stuff but you make nice ones lol
really cant judge it sounds nice but not my music

@dannyfloyd
yeah i agree the drums could be bit warmer i think or more shuffly less trapesc but the rest is real nice
ambience melodies
would say make the beat feel way slower and fill the new space with incidents

@genrl
lol :3
very wonky again. but i think i like this one more. dig how the sub comes in
maybe give the drums more impact i think just the snare though bit more highend
and maybe try to bring in the first intro sample back into the mix maybe cutted or pitched around could add a nice touch

@nwsj
yeah sounds like a song from an old psx racer that never made it form japan to the usa
def nice though maybe too jumpy for my taste but i love how the sounds sound

Same dudes. Speakers are up. I don't know where my pc is (and really don't know where my audio i/o is), but things are starting to get into place. Don't have enough cabling... but I'll go as far as I can.

(think I'm going to have to redo my rack, need to move some stuff around)

I find it extremely difficult to go back and work further on old tunes. If anything, I've got to let them lie for extended periods. Only then while listening back, hearing things that need to be done, can I do them. I usually ditch toons when I hit a point where I've done something that fucks up the toon, but I don't know how to fix it. Usually with 6 months of rest, I can actually see the error, and know a solution.

But to what end Bud? Why go back and rework, polish? Is that an enjoyable process for you? If you're releasing, and people are listening, it makes sense. But if not, you know I'm only interested in one direction, forward. New.
