its probably bollocks because the sun love this kind of stuff but hey, if these stnuc can get a house like this why can't I?
Because it's a relatively standard price for a large city townhouse and we're not the sort of country that tells 10 war refugees that they'll have to share a 2 room bedsit? Prices in London are high so The Sun like to make stories out of them so that their angry readers in provincial towns get the maximum level of outrage for the minimum real scandal.

1.25m for a townhouse that houses nearly 10 people in London really isn't that expensive. We had a valuation sent to us by some estate agent for the 5-bed flat me and my mates rent a few months ago... 2 million just for a flat!

They're also... refugees of war including 5 little girls all under the age of 10... it's not quite the same as finding you and your mates between homes at the end of a semester.

Such a shame the Sun doesn't allow you to sort their 'comments' section by most/least popular, some gems in there
OMG OMG THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY. WELL NO IS NOT. EVERYONE I KNOW ARE UP AT 6AM TO GO TO WORK. BY THE END OF THE MONTH THEY HAVE NOTHING LEFT IN THERE BANK OR THEY CANT PAY THE REST OFF THERE BILLS TO THEY GET PAID AGAIN. THIS IS A SHAME ITS MORE THEN A SHAME ITS WRONG'''''''''''''''''''''''WE HAVE PEOPLE IN THIS CITY WAITING TO BE HOUSED WHO WOULD LOVE AND LOOK AFTER THIS MEGA HOUSE AND WHAT DO WE DO ???WE RENT IT TO ................... AND THE POEPLE WHO GET UP ARE PAYING FOR IT............ WHATS ALL THAT ABOUT?????
Now our country is over run with this kind of vermin there is no way landlords should allow council tenants into their properties. If they werent so bloody greedy and waited for a decent tenant to come along this wouldnt be such a problem as it is now. The council dont give a damn, they let all this scum live anywhere with no thought for the neighbours
Isn't that nice , ive paid my counsel tax and tax for 15 years now and me and my gf live in a shoddy 2 bedroomed house that is falling to bits and beyond repair.I wish i was a * immigrant!

The comments section is absurd, agreed, but to be honest, you lot obviously want to bury your heads in the sand about it, which is fine, but just ignores the problem, which doesn't make it go away. It's not acceptable that England always foots the bill for asylum seekers and people should grow a backbone about these topics instead of turning to the same rhetoric, i.e. 'We are all immigrants to some extent anyway', 'They take the jobs Brits won't do' etc ad infinitum.

I agree with all of this
But,
They have been here for 12 years, and she hasn't worked once
So I can see why people are angry about it.
I don't think this makes me a crazed right wing lunatic either.

First of all, there's big difference between "Asylum Seekers" and "Immigrants".

Asylum seekers are here, like this family, because they've been displaced by war or persecution. What sort of society turns its back on those people?

General immigrants move for other reasons and I can understand wanting to limit the flow in/out... but telling asylum seekers to "grow a backbone"? That's just fucking cruel, man. Actually, it's pretty disgusting.

I'd much rather be looking for a new flat in a cool City that I'm comfortable in with my mates than be forced to leave my home country in fear of my life only to be sneered at in the street by self-entitled pieces of shit who think they're deserving of a wonderful life because they were born to British parents through no choice of their own.

But that's just me burying my head in the sand, obviously. Perhaps we should bury our heads in the sand about war and suffering instead? Perhaps we should just all look out for number one... if you're in fear of your life because you don't believe in the same God as your government, well, that's your fucking problem! Have a good death, losers!

Asylum seekers are here, like this family, because they've been displaced by war or persecution. What sort of society turns its back on those people?
What sort of society funds them for 12 YEARS? What sort of society lets a woman contribute nothing to society and get a flash house for it while her son deals drugs and gets put away in Norwich?
General immigrants move for other reasons and I can understand wanting to limit the flow in/out... but telling asylum seekers to "grow a backbone"? That's just fucking cruel, man. Actually, it's pretty disgusting.
I didn't say THEY should grow a backbone I actually was implying that YOU should grow a backbone and people of a similar attitude to yours. They don't need to grow a backbone, they evidently already have one as can be seen by the fact she apparently said "“I deserve to live in a nice house and get benefits. In this country, it is our right to live here." Oh is it? What exactly makes it her right? How much more entitled can you get? That is disgusting.
Here we go with the pity. Not everyone sneers. Who is going to sneer at them? They look to be doing pretty fine off the benefits they are apparently living off. Son's got a nice little beamer sitting in the disabled spot there.

So every British person think's they deserve a wonderful life because they were born to British parents? Fucking spare me.. honestly... I guess you don't know that there are ALOT of poor British families (of every race before you get on your high horse) who would kill for a place like that but who actually contribute to the economy and society?
But that's just me burying my head in the sand, obviously. Perhaps we should bury our heads in the sand about war and suffering instead? Perhaps we should just all look out for number one... if you're in fear of your life because you don't believe in the same God as your government, well, that's your fucking problem! Have a good death, losers!
Clearly we haven't buried our heads in the sand because we have provided a home for thousands of people from war torn countries. If you really, honestly think that the people in this article aren't looking out for number one then you are even more deluded than I thought. You think they really care? hahahah

I work in social care so I'd like to weigh in on this, by and large all the biggest scroungers, scammers and benefit cheats we've worked with are white british familys who think they can play the system and the vast majority of aslylum seekers we've dealt with have been humble and honest and had to claim asylum here on legitimate grounds, war rufugees and victims of people trafficking mostly. All the most difficult cases we deal with are british kids with an unwarranted sense of entitlement and zero work ethic... But of course the sun only reports the foreign people doing bad shit here and ignores the bigger problems within our own society

Hurrr durr immigrant scroungers... Oh wait, thousands more british scroungers than immigrants

Not taking sides here as I know jack shit about the situation, but just because they aren't the majority does that mean they're entirely absolved of any misbehaviours?

I'm always surprised when asylum seekers get housed in such an expensive part of the country, would've thought that would've been a simple way to stop "PR disasters" like this.

I have about as much knowledge of that individual case as you, Perej - not very much - I have no idea what has happened to them and why they're acting like they are. But its pretty clear that they're being used as an extreme example of why we shouldn't be doing it at all... they've picked an area of the country where prices are shockingly high for everyone in order to make a sensationalist story.

A mother isn't responsible for her adult son, he is. If he's been locked up, what's the problem? Isn't that society doing its job? I wouldn't expect my Mum to be punished for my wrongdoing?!

She's got 5 kids to look after too and I have no idea what her grasp of English might be like, I don't know any of the ons-and-outs of why she's not worked. I know plenty of British families exist in similar situations - perhaps they're pushing the system as far as they can so, but just because some people take a bit too much doesn't mean you should tighten the rules so ththe deserving find it difficult/impossible to get help.

Our country's main financial issues don't come from people claiming too much benefit - compared to the amount the country loses in evaded tax, off shored businesses and dodgy banking, the spend is absolutely tiny. This is a classic right wing tabloid effort to divide the people - make the poor think its each others fault so they stop hassling the rich so much.

I didn't say anything about "every British person", most British people are lovely... but then, most British people are switched-on enough not believe stories about asylum seekers in The Sun or The Mail.

Well my point was more about the fact that papers like the sun and the mail only report this when it's someone from outside the uk but never mention the thousands of british nationals who pull this shit all the fucking time, strikes me as having an agenda to push

The reason I've put 'allegedly' and 'apparently' is because it's the Sun, same with the mail, as in, they have obviously made it out to be worse than it is, but it is an issue nonetheless, whether it's reported on or not. You only have to come to London to see.

On the point of the English language I'd say if you haven't learnt it after being here for 12 years that's pig ignorant and disrespectful, though I wouldn't say the same about someone who came 6 months ago for example.

Everyone knows British people do it too but too often people then begin to tar ALL British people with the same brush in defense of immigrants which isn't fair either.

Well ok, not 'never' but the scorn they pour on immigrants is sooo disproportionate, and the vast bulk of stories like this are about immigrants... I've never seen mention of people in the care system selling all their furniture (lovingly provided by the taxpayer) only to demand that it all be replaced (again lovingly provided by the tax payer) and there is nothing that can be done about if they lie and say it was a burgalry. Admittedly thats quite a tame example but I've only been in my job for a year and i've seen this happen more times than I can recall, sometimes numerous times by the same person

I just think the reporting of stuff like this is biased more against people born outside of britain

If you need to nail that single parent home thing to get a bit more cheque; I'd be more than happy to leave you heartbroken, pennyless and raising a flock of unruly kids on the breadline. You'll be living the estate dream in no time... you too pretty to be working that brain with all them books and jobs anyway. Hollatchaboy! :4:
