Dont jump all over me. I don't want to get in a dumb argument about whether or not it's brostep, but they are heavy tunes that aren't deep or dark, could be classified as "cheesy," and are possessing other typical "brostep" characteristics - would you argue that Subscape isn't brostep?

Do you like listening to dubstep? Then you’ll love watching a movie about it! Yes, after conquering just about every musical frontier possible, the wubb-filled genre is headed straight for Hollywood. Ladies and gentlemen, a dubstep movie is in the works. Titled Snap, the forthcoming film is described as a “psychological thriller” and is “set in a world of high-energy and relentless beats”.

The plot follows “an undiscovered musician, in this case a shy-but-brilliant dubstepper”, who, in a tried and tested film plot, meets a girl. “Lured in by his mesmerising musical skills, she follows him into the underground dubstep scene, but before long his personal demons become too much for to handle”. But before you start to worry about the calibre of dubstep’s cinematic debut, rest assured: the film stars Twilight’s Nikki Reed and some dude called Jake Hoffman, who, yes, is the spawn of one Dustin Hoffman. Plus, the team behind the film (who recently made a movie about the “hip hop world”) hope to premiere it at Sundance Film Festival early next year.

As enlightening as that plot summary is, so many questions remain unanswered. Who will feature on the soundtrack? Are we talking brostep-variety dubstep or wubbs of the Big Apple Records canon? Will there be a cameo from Skrillex? Only time will tell whether Snap is destined to sit alongside dance music movie classics like Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People, or go down the DJ Girl route. But one thing is certain: we’ll be waiting with baited breath to find out.

Fresh off the Sundance premiere of their hip-hop film Filly Brown, Cima Productions has set a March 26 start date for Snap, a psychological thriller set in the world of underground dubstep. Jake Hoffman (Barney’s Version) will play a brilliant but painfully introverted musician who develops a crush on a young social worker. Twilight Saga‘s Nikki Reed will play that role. While she is initially drawn in by Jim’s musical genius, his inner demons spiral out of control when the romance fizzles, wiith shocking and tragic results. The script was written by Filly Brown producer Victor Teran. He will co-direct with his Cima partner and Filly Brown co-helmer Youssef Delara. Cima founding partner Amir Delara will produce, and Kevin Smith, an exec producer on Filly Brown, will be exec producer of Snap along with Generate’s Jeremy Platt.

“We’re extremely blessed that, after our amazing experience with Gina Rodriguez on Filly, we get to continue working with more brilliant young actors like Jake and Nikki,” Delara said. Teran said their hope is to return to 2013 Sundance with the finished film. “We can’t imagine a better place for us to continue introducing our work to audiences,” Teran said.

Saying "they're definitely brostep" would mean their whole catalog consists of brostep which is simply untrue. Most of their older tracks are either melodic or tearout. Don't try to school me on what is and what isn't dubstep buckaroo.

wait... who? i wouldn't dare call Lost's tunes brostep. They are (majority of them) tear-out, but really clever, interesting the percussion is well done and they have FUCKLOADS of sub

I shot over to youtube so i could do a tearout-dubstep vs brostep comparison. I ended up with the quintisential, couldnt-be-more-perfect example for bro:
note it has a melodic intro/interlude (albiet a tool sample ) but being melodic doesn't define a track one way or another. a melody is a melody, it can suck, it can rock, it can be played on a shitty sound... etc. anyway

what irks me about brostep is that it actually has some potential, take skrillex for example, he can write really nice melodies, but i don't get why can't he build a nice track around it instead of letting the melody play for a minute then drop into mash-up of ear raping noises
