It's a producers responsibility as well as the DJ's to make the music, and make it either good or bad. It's your responsibility as a listener to sift through the garbage, good or bad, find what appeals to you and SUPPORT IT. There's quality at both ends of the spectrum in this as well as a majority of all music. I own clownstep records. And I own brostep records. I play them. And I play *gasp* other records with them that arent the same sound!!!!

Being a fucking elitist about the music you like is only encouraging a lack of growth. People seem to think that because certian music is made on a computer an entirely seperate list of rules apply for it. There's good dubstep. There's bad dubstep. Just like there's good and bad rock, rap, or punk, salsa, or whatever else you can name. Quite frankly, as far as I'm concerned all this arguing is irrelevant. Opinions are like assholes. We all have them. Keep them to yourselves. If you don't like the music, stop bitching and make some of your own damn tunes. Or stop listening all together. Nuff said.

What does "meditate on bassweight" mean anyway? Everyone here says it but I have yet to see someone sitting on top of the subs in a lotus position Om'ing it up. Is that because of the midrange wobbles?

Short answer, assuming this isn't trolling, circa 2004-2006 part of what was really exciting about dubstep was that it was kind of diametrically opposed to almost everything else that was around at the time by still being dance music but feeling really slow and really spacey and really focussed on the sub-bass. People could pick up different levels of dance from it - busting out some proper moves to the garagey swing in the hihats, skanking gently on the halfstep, or basically just zoning out and getting into a kind of deep mental zone in the depth of the sub bass. This is part of the reason it appealed to so many people who were fed up with wall to wall bangers at breaks nights or dnb nights and wanted something a bit different and a bit deeper. I think it's also part of the reason that the vibe was so famously nice at the early dubstep nights.

This is something that's kind of lost these days - and it's not just the wobblers that have lost it either - it's kind of out of the picture in all the funky / wonky /garagey stuff too. I'm currently expecting the official revival to get going by this time next year.

TBH I know what you are talking about here. It is not to say that the music that isn't this way doesn't have value but I am looking for stuff right now that has that vibe because it is missing. I just got the motherload of Widdler tunes from the man himself, his music has "it". Really feelin Breakage right about now. Lot's of other stuff out there, you have to search for it. I think that is the beauty of the fact there is so much shit out there right now is that the stuff you are looking for isn't obvious for everyone to grab. Good track selection right now is harder to achieve that ever right now. The good dj's will stick out imo.

its really self explanatory, but whatever. its when the sub bass hits and you feel it rumble in your chest and you just zone out and skank and go to another place. meditation. on bass weight. its simple. fact is tho , if there aint no sub bass in the tune and it kinda just wails away on midrange like there's no tomorrow, its gonna be hard to get that same effect

Yeah absolutely. I don't know what it is tho, I have been playing Breakage tunes since he came out on Reinforced. He just does it proper. Sub and energetic beats, never on the latest trend, just makes good stuff. I still wish he would cut up an amen at 140 tho

I am a female that doesn't leave the brofloor when a bromassive drops. Brobably the opposite when it comes to me personally. I honestly prefer the heavier realm of dubstep.

I think the bottom line is that you can't ignore the fact that people are complaining - and from what I gather, the root of these complaints are driven by the human desire for variety/uniqueness/fresh taste/element of surprise. (in the same way as how good movies are put together). so i see think all djs and producers should look at this as constructive criticism in the sense that as performers and musicians, we should strive to break down expectations and predictions, and provide the listener with a well balanced palette of familiar and uncharted territory. i agree, much of the hate is unwarranted; but like I said, I think it comes from a deeper place in the hearts of honest music fans who want to come to a club and get that feeling we've all had at some point or another where we say to ourselves "damnnnn what is this, i've never heard anything like it" or "this is simply beautiful, I NEED to know who this is".

new genre names are fun, it makes us more picky about what we select. before keaton thought up the term "clown step", a good amount of dnb djs were spinning some pretty weak jump up tracks if my memory serves me correctly. the term really helped the jump up genre evolve as a whole, just as "dude step" will help the more aggressive side of dubstep grow, so bring it on.

i think i'm gonna have a plate of dancefloor, w a side of jump up, and i'll finish w a nice bro step souffle, but you can have whatever you want.
