Re: What does electronic music need more/less of in 2013?
More:
Albums and mixes that move across multiple moods, styles and tempos while still remaining cohesive (for this reason, Reso's Tangram is easily my favourite of the year)
Fun, bright garage/house that the likes of Mosca and Disclosure are turning out (can someone explain to me the Disclosure hate in this thread? I'm honestly not seeing the problem)
Funk and jazz.
Less:
Dungeon.
Subgenres.
DJs like Benga getting out from behind the decks and pretending they're rock-stars.
Bandwagon-jumping and genre-pandering.

agreed 100%, itz boring as shit now. don't mind some of it but it's far too monotonous to listen to all the timefractal wrote:less boring ass warehouse techno

genres or revivals i would like to see more of in 2013:
microhouse/click/minimal house (circa 2001-2003)
more proper uk garage (not 'future' garage or disclosurestep) - speed or 2 step, i'm happy with either.
breakbeat/industrial techno crossover (more stuff like randomer's latest release on hemlock)
all the stuff dusk and blackdown play
i would like to see dubstep become more inclusive again and move away from dungeon/brostep divide but thats wishful thinking

I'm all in support of a modern take on speed/4x4 garage.skwiggo wrote:agreed 100%, itz boring as shit now. don't mind some of it but it's far too monotonous to listen to all the timefractal wrote:less boring ass warehouse techno

Always felt like the proto-dubstep/late garage sound was never explored to its fullest either.

i definitely agree on the proto-dubstep/dark garage stuff too - i have very little knowledge about it but the small amount i have heard has been really good. would like to see some new producers tackle it.garethom wrote: I'm all in support of a modern take on speed/4x4 garage.

Basically, most of the stuff off The Roots of Dubstep CD, Horsepower's stuff, Menta, Artwork (would say Roxy too, but you knowskwiggo wrote:i definitely agree on the proto-dubstep/dark garage stuff too - i have very little knowledge about it but the small amount i have heard has been really good. would like to see some new producers tackle it.garethom wrote: I'm all in support of a modern take on speed/4x4 garage.
