i meant the most creative of any "4x4" that I know of. should have been more specific. i don't listen to hessle. why do you assume the worst?

although you prolly already know, 4/4 is a time signature pronounced "four by four" and somehow the that turned into 4x4 because "number by number" in regular language (usually measuring wood) is usually spelled with an x instead of a slash.

bennyfroobs wrote: how can you rate one label with like 25 releases as the pinnacle of all 4x4 music... yeah sure they've had some very decent and interesting releases, and tunes by those guys absolutely smash it in the right environment, but if you ever listened to the hessle audio show, for example, you would quickly realise how wrong you are about swamp being the most creative of any 4x4  . like ben ufo is constantly playing the most creative and weird out of the box 4x4. ive got all the time in the world for the weird stuff he plays (well, for as long as i can tolerate 4x4...). but i do not have all the time in the world for hyperpolished overhyped 5 panel tech house that everyone has been playing for the past few years.
yeah it's true hessle is being more creative at the moment and i'm finding their stuff definitely better to listen to. swamp tunes are verrrrrry good live though, i saw paleman the other week and he was absolutely ridiculous, and all he pretty much did is play an hour of the swamp rinse show.
"hyperpolished overhyped 5 panel tech house" is EXACTLY the music thats doing my head in atm, fuckin mak & pasteman when do u get off mates... and the worst part is the people that listen to that kind of trash think theyre being "hip" and "underground" :6:

you have to remember, though, that when swamp was doing pretty much just 4x4 it was actually fresh at the time... remember furrball in like december last year? i think for a while over this summer they started to stagnate but loefah changed the direction with swamp027 and to an extent swamp026 and now the non 4x4 stuff seems to be their new direction

as a DJ, I don't see the point in buying Swamp releases as most of them have been rinsed to death before the plate's in press. as a music lover, I don't see the point in buying Swamp releases as most of them don't age well at all.
some exceptions of course.

4x4 = four the the floor drum pattern, 4/4 is the time signature, its not the same thing man

anyhoo
i dont really get waht u mean by 'assume the worst', i was just sayin imo u cant really say categorically which label is the pinnacle of 4x4. theres so much of it out there. fair play if its ur personal fave though! Croydon House has been a percy of mine since it was released. its aged fantastically imo, especially with the new 130 biz happening

u shud check out the hessle show aswel dude, i think its absolutely class. its pretty different from the swamp show though. its on right after swamp as well so u can have a good night of tunas

thats the problem, to you its good, but to ppl who actually listen to lots of other house and techno the swamp stuff is wack. to me it seems like a lot of that kind of stuff, and i dont mean just releases on swamp, but the kinda shit they were playing, its like they listen to that and think that is what techno should sound like, when really a lot of the shit has nothing from techno that is good, just a techno styled beat. I do much prefer it when Mickey Pearce does the show, but from seeing the tracklist too it does seem like the usual show is getting better. Still probably wont listen to it much tho lol

I just meant that if you don't watch every single word you say ppl here will always assume that you meant whatever makes the least sense. no one gives the benefit of the doubt. maybe i'm just stressed, i had two exams today and finished two weeks of nonstop work/studying today which included a couple all-nighters and in general not enough sleep..... point is i have no clue who the pinnacle of techno/house is and don't claim to.

i might check out hessle. but tbh i've been getting more and more bored with swamp's show recently. tunes like Furrball and Heat and Release Me by Foamo (although that one was rinse i better clarify - but i first heard it on swamp's show) are what got me into swamp's show (aside from the ol' kryptic minds releases). past 3 or 4 shows have been kinda boring to in my opinion. if a tune doesn't really have a steady beat i can't really get into it, at least right now. i find a lot of this stuff is kind of an acquired taste. like at first when you hear it it's like meh but after listenin for a bit you start to understand and get into it.

i feel you man, it's definitely an acquired taste. although if thats your problem then you probably wont like hessle, their stuff is even weirder than swamp's (although it is typically a little less 'broken' and a little more steady)

from what i've seen though m8 that is a minority opinion

dnt woryt man its all good :w: hope ur exams went well my friend

i find hessle a lot more interesting musically. rhythmically it can be interesting too, its not alll 4x4 (it is a lot of 4x4 though). check it out anyway, its a nice swithcup after the barrage of bangers played on swamp

i dont know Release Me and ive got no idea who foamo are  . my fave period of swampage was when braiden - the alps was doin the rounds. big tune, everything around that peroid really tickled my fancy. all the pearson sound stuff like his refixes were so sick.

what do u mean by steady beat? u mean 4x4?

not necessarily that kind of a beat, could be breakbeat or whatever. just some kind of steady drum beat including kick, snare, and hihat/cymbals, at the very least. if the majority of a tune is missing those elements, it's just kinda mehhh in my opinion. i don't have any good examples because when i hear them i usually don't like them so i don't seek them out or download them. if i come across one i'll edit it into this post.

I s'pose. I guess Turbo Mitzi may qualify although I really like that tune so it's an exception.
