@Mammoth.

First song - Like the percussion, though i feel it's a little dry. Pan some stuff, widen some stuff, reverb some stuff.
Second song - Said i loved the atmosphere, especially the sub, it's a bit IDM'ish. The drums are spot on. The horn thingy is a bit "plastic", try messing with velocities and don't snap it to the tempo grid, play it in with a midi keyboard rather. Automate the volume too and maybe reverb a bit.
Third song is my favourite. Love the 16th percussion thingy. Love the kick in the intro. Love the drums in general. Love the chiptune thingy. Love the melody in general. No remarks at all. I'd buy this tune. Followed ya.

@Hendy - i love the entire song, except for the actual drop. The wobble (not really a wobble but whatever) ruins the atmosphere completely. I'd loose it completely and put a sub wobble in there with very few harmonics.

@Malloy09 - Nice wobble. Compress the sub a bit. Also, i feel your snare is a little thin.

Alright, now for mine, it's not really dubstep, it's more house mixed with brostep. You know, feed me style. (hence the name)
Feedback would be much appreciated.

@Applewater try having anything playing in the back with the drop to make it more full, maybe some light cymbals or something. still love it though :D
@mthrfnk the synth that comes in at like 00:38 is awesome!! love the glitchy drop, just my taste :DD
@Randomic very cool song, the second drop at 1:25 is siiiick, so sleazy :3 nice one, like it

heres one ive been working on

Feedback for others:

@Applewater: Liking the intro man, very nice use of the sample, the percussion is spot on for me. Bass is nice too, reminds me of Excisions earlier stuff. Onething to note - to me the "velociraptor" vocal bit got muddied by the bass, maybe open it up a bit more. Also did you use a sample of like a dog barking or just make the sound at 1.26? One thing I'd be temptedto try on the 2nd part of the track would be to up the tempo or shift up the drum speed for a few bars and then bring it back down.

@Swaggr: Nice intro, drums before the drop are sweet. Drop was like idk, like you took the theme tune to some 60's tv show and made it electro, funky as fuck. I like how you vary it, but I'd work on cutting the main bass out in a smoother way - it seems to just drop away to sharply before you bring it back in.

Edit: Also swaggr I remember liking the melody in your other track, do you work in a specific scale to make those funky melodies?

---------------------------------------------------

I fleshed out my previous track, thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure about the mix on this updated version - some things need smoothing out but I think the overall structure of the track is done, I'd love any ideas on improving it. I'm really happy with how this track has come out - I might actually get round to finishing up a full track for once :O

To mthrfnk thanks man thats a huge compliment. I agree on the second part I kind of just threw it together, I want to up the tempo of the drums a bit but this is my first real track ever so im still having a hard time with the flow. I love your track though dude, that sounds awesome! Thanks for the feedback

@ Swaggr - you sweet toms in the intro, haven't heard any tom work in a while. lol. the drop is nice man, i'm liking that the basses are not the typical sounds. nice mixture of combining basses as well. even the outro sounds proper man. nice job, this track just needs a bit of mixdown polishing, id call it 90% finished.

@ mthrfnk - nice! pianos for the win! a good melody indeed.the guitar sounding part i'd brind down just a hair it fits for sure, just a bit to loud in the build, but works well in the drop. nice progression in the drum work as well. Sweet variation in the melodies as well, and the reesy sweeps are also doing it justice. this tune has alot of energy man, keep it up. the outro on this one is sweet as well. glad to hear piano work out there!

@ applewater - not sure if raptors was what you most recently posted for feeback, but this song is great man! the intro has great drum work, im really dign the bounce. the sample work is good as well maybe just a touch of reverb to space it out a bit. the drop has great synth work and bounces an stops just right, and the drums accent the bounce just right. the growls i'd boost just a bit more, they sound great but really push them out there more. also boost that kick a little more. but otherwise, this track is awesome man. keep up the good work

Threw this track together yesterday, and did some more layering an routing with it today while i could get to it... sampled voices an effects from requiem for a dream. its just an intro right now, the drop is to come, still haven't decided what basses I want to use, but let me know what you guys think DSF! have a good one.

@Swaggr I also like the idea of your song. Your snare is lacking, could use some EQ or a whole other sample but its really my own preference speaking. I say cut out the wobbles and throw in some arps and reverbed hits here and there. The actual song aint bad. The wobbles and bass were not my preference though.

@jimbeaux 1st off fuck u for intro only >:) I really wanted to hear the drop. Variation was all there, nice levels on the mix, good sampling and a great build up, looking forward to hearing. I will be following.

@ mthrfnk God damn! made me a believer on that drop, the build up could have been structured a little better but it wasnt bad how it is. everything sounds like it has good EQ and levels. Great synths and bass. finish this tune man! future ed banger material haha

Newest work in progress, still figuring out a second drop for this bass monster >8)

@livedht: I actually went back and listened to yours again. Days later. Catchy. Cut out that buzzyness at the high end of ur synth tho. And layer a sub under it.

@swaggr: any criticism I give will be counterproductive to what you’re going for I’m sure. Up the levels on the hats. I’m not hearing any sub bass.

Mthrfnk: vary up the melody. Subtle pan, velocity, and filter would not be amiss. Maybe (doubtful) it’s what I’m listening on atm but I hear dick in the way of sub bass in any of the tracks up here. I think you mentioned you mixed this on headphones though, hard to do. I would work on making the bass line you have into a more dynamic sub and then you could bring down the levels on your melody (which is pretty good) and if you mixed it right you could bring the drums out more. Having more prominent drums would make this more danceable.

@jimbeaux: love the sample used. Post it later when the track is more fleshed out as there’s not much to critique now. That tom your using needs to be eqed, resampled, something. It doesn’t quite fit. Geaux hard brother.

@mammoth: generic structure but there was sub. Not much to say. Rework. Repost.

@crakasteven: I think I see what you’re going for. If this track is going to work there need to be subtle variations in the repetitiveness. Not bashing the repetitive nature, I’m into it, but there needs to be some barely perceptible things different in each bar or however you want to space it. That’s the creative element. Use that sample less sparingly. Maybe some really soft high-end melody or something?

swaggr- the intro is solid ; nice snare, cool drop; not to crazy about one of those synths in specific.. the first/main one.. good tho.
mthrfnk- nice melo ; glitchy edits are sick as fuck, bangin snare, nice pad work.
craka steven- i really like the bass/synth sounds.. really cool patterns.. nice break at 1:09.

heres my latest wip ; expirementing with some dungeon style dubs.. this version is without the vocal hook i orginally had in it ; still debating wether or not i should throw it in there; check it.
Soundcloud

heres the vocal version..idk which to use; suggestions?

@jimbeaux: I like your alternative percussion noises, I really like what sounds like someone breathing. For me I'd like more punch to the kick. Sounds like a good start for your track, I wanna hear it drop.

@Mammoth: I'd suggest embedding your song in the tags like:

Code: Select all

[soundcloud]SC link here[/soundcloud]
to get more plays/feedback.

@donpablo: Your intro is really smooth, it's complex but nice and mellow. I like the main lead synths you bring in too. Not sure what more to say really, sounds like a solid start for a track, just needs fleshing out a little.

@crakasteven: Good start, but you need to switch it up imo. Add some changes to the main lead - atm it sounds kinda repetitive and expand the dynamics - maybe add in a high pitched lead line at points or some extra panned hats or crashes?

@Rebel: I like your bass and I like the reverb/panning you've got going on your snare. Imo I like the vocals - but not in the intro bars, I wouldn't put them in until 0:14 or pull the volume down on them in the intro and pan them around maybe?

---------------------------------------------------------

So I did some work on my mixing and dynamics, trying to smooth everything out. I also added some little extra riffs in the melody. I think I may have upped the panning on the main synth too much at points but meh... that can be fixed easy.

Also @tuckerlinen about "no sub" - admittedly on my headphones its hard to hear the sub when the mid bass is playing but according to my spectrometer theres a heavy sub prescence throughout the mix from 20Hz upwards. I also eq'ed out the midbass to cut it off well before the sub now, so hopefully it should be better and hopefully the kick drum should punch more now. If it's still sucky maybe it's SC compression cutting it down?

I don't think I can do much more to improve this track tbh unless anyone has some ideas, I think I've hit the limit of my 1(ish) months worth of production knowledge :P

thanks to -> Mammoth, crakasteven, tuckerlinen, mthrfunk, and teknian for the feedback. i really appreciate the plays guys!! :Q:

@teknian - The vibe is on point man, intro is sweet as fuck. The drop is also very on point, loving how the ambiance and pads are layering over the basses. also the slight glitch work is doing it justice. hopefully soon I can make sounds as good as these!! keep up the good work man.

my requiem for a dream tune has a drop for now, not to sure how well it fits, kinda sounds like a whole other song to me. But it follows the melody pretty closely.. what do you guys think?

My new WIP - It's a remix as I used an acapella but all other sounds are mine:

Soundcloud

donpablo - I really like the verb on the hat at the start.. The riser starts a little too unsubtly for my liking, maybe more of a fade in? I like the progression and the synth is really good. Maybe for the sidechain settings, a little lighter on the threshold? But I do really like it.. GRIMEY drop. I really like it! If anything, it all needs to be more '3D' but awesome so far

crakasteven - Pretty sick beat, I like that it has a lot of high end.. When the sub bass comes in, I really like that. Very grimey. The sub bass needs to be turned up a bit I think.. That shaker thing at 28 secs is a bit loud I think but I like the effect it has! Maybe needs a touch of verb to take it back in the mix too.. So far, sterling job!

Rebel - I like the immediate dark sound, that sub bass is lovely and textured.. It definitely needs to be turned down in the mix and probably EQ'd a bit too although it really sounds very good! Overall, great mood and execution bar the sub bass! Good groove too

mthrfnk - Sub bass and piano fit together perfectly.. The pad creeping in the background is perfect too... Great mood to this so far! Ooh, another pad.. Sounds good and white noisey! I think if anything, that white noise riser could do with a TOUCH of reverb, like 6 - 10% wetness just to take it back a liiiittle... Like the build.. The melody after the drop is cool and I like the glitches! It sounds very big so great job on the mixdown!

ninthy4 - Great atmosphere and mood in the intro.. Pad is building, fits perfectly with whatever instrument that is. Sub bass is brilliant, very textured! The drums creeping in are very moody and atmospheric.. So far am really digging this. Great white noise build.. Hmm, the neuro bass really took me by surprise! I am into my heavy stuff just as much as my atmospheric stuff and I think this may benefit from staying atmospheric with some sort of 808 bass... HAVING SAID THAT.. For what it is, it is perfectly executed

hey im no critic and these are only my opinions! much love dsf :D

Ascian - dopeeee track!! i love it the acapella goes real well,
the chours im not such a fan of tho, it seems lacking dynamicaly,
as does the rest of hte track like need some stuff in the mid and
higher ranges it just still feels a little empty,, but reguardless.
fyah.

Jimbeaux - i love your bass ! nice articulation, just i recomend a
bit of EQ'ing to cut a bit off bass freq to bring out the drums a
bit more i feel like there being masked and its taking away from
the impact of the track, once them drums are bumpin that track
will be roaring! and maybe something in the higher registers when
your bass is goin at it

ninthy4 - :o :) :U: :D :Q: :4: nuffsaid.

mthrfkn - sweet track! just to me the whole thing felt like a
breakdown due to the drum pattern! maybe a little variation in drum
patterns will give it a fresh feel! but reguardless illa

rebel - nice! moar bazz! and get some umph behind that kick~! but
def into it

crakasteven - pretty dope! something about it seems a little
muddy tho i cant pin it down! and could use some more sub in there,
and maybe eq your bass and bring out a little brightness! but love
bass sound and modulation requardless!

donpablo - werd up i love your synth work! compliments the bass well
not much to say keep doin jah ting

Mammoth - makes me feel like im chiillin with caspa lol not a bad
thing tho! oldskool

Here is something i was working on yesterday! let me know what you think! intro is a little messed up but it gets good around 1:30 ish

This is a track where I'm currently working on. Im still in the process of trying to learn and understand the ways of mixing.
Could you guys check it out, and listen if you hear anything that could sound a bit better? The song itself is very raw in terms of composition. the build-ups and structure of the song will probably change big time. But first i want to get the sound right.

@basebass hey i see you new! not trying to be rude or anything but how it works around here is you leave feedback about a few tracks on here you liked/disliked/ect. amd then you recieve feedback on your tune from others! its a give receive type community here :D welcome!

with that said....
your tune is produced rather well my only peeves are your bass lines being out of key, create harmony! and you track will singgg

@gauntlets, Aah yes ofcourse, how rude of me! I already listened to your track (yesterday i think), and i think the dynamics in your track are very good. I will follow you on souncloud so i can leave an extra comment There. I think your snare could use à little more bite. The kick is very nice! Mixing the kick is my biggest problem. It always loses weight when the basses kick in. Btw, do you mean my basses are out of tune? Or just that the track lacks melody and harmony?
