Weren't the Philippines an American colony?

we like the word protectorate thank you, but yes. we went suppressed em european style and then slaughtered em when they rose us.

On a serious note, is the word 'colony' is never used to describe the Philippines? Because the U.K had colonies and protectorates but they meant very different things iirc.

officially the US never had "colonies" they had protectorates that were ruled in the same way as colonies. places like Guam, American Samoa, The Philippines, and liberia (which was stupid fucking idea in the first place)
