That guy is painfully unfunny, no matter how much he might believe the contrary. Top wet goon.

Also, the idea that if you don't think of something as "true (genre)" then you must only listen to one super-specific area of the sound is beyond stupid. I don't particularly care about brostep, but if I had to put together an argument about it being not real dubstep, then it would be because it has very few, if any, elements from dub, has no discernible ties or influences from UKG, stuff that is referred to as bro is often about between 120-130, seem to use a lot more vocals, etc. It's quite far removed from what it was even a few years ago. People stopped calling dubstep garage at some point, and I can see why people stopped calling brostep "dubstep" too.

That dude is typical of the those mongoloids that think they're the first person to have this revolutionary thought. After all, he cares so much about genres because that way he has a cool buzzword to put in his fucking youtube tags.

Haha cat. Haha internet. I get it.

this was my comment on that blogpost of his that got modded

it’s odd that you suggest departing from a genre’s defining influences and aesthetics doesn’t exclude it from that genre. of course metal with synths is metal. Have you ever heard the band Breaking Through? Dream Theater? two very different metal bands both featuring synths. But if the synth is playing cheesy euphoric trance lines, it isn’t metal music. Not that it would upset me much that you or anyone else insists that it is, but it still wouldn’t be, and i doubt i’d like it. dubstep has a dub influence, space, pace, and bass. If it has aggressive distorted synths as well as the aforementioned qualities, of course it’s dubstep. But a track being in halftime and at 140 doesn’t automatically make it dubstep. If it has no space, i.e. a completely filled spectrum, it lacks pace, it has no sub pressure, or no connection to dub or sound system culture whatsoever, it isn’t. there’s good and bad dubstep, there’s good and bad non-dubstep. Embracing or rejecting a new sound isn’t about calling something what it isn’t. I’m confused because then you confirm that “classical” made at any point other than the 17-1800′s isn’t “real” classical which is true, because it wasn’t made in the classical era and even if it sounded identical to that music, it can’t be classed as such. I don’t understand why this is ok but retaining genre names for fused/significantly altered/otherwise bastardized forms of music is also perfectly fine. It seems you want to have your cake, and eat it too just on account of you don’t want to contradict the western music history professor whose dick you sucked all through uni.

not all dubstep is halftime. A lot of dubstep is 2step, 4×4 or breaks. And even if you ignore your misstatement about halftime, 140bpm plus prevalent use of basses.. doesn’t cut it . What you described is bassy 140 in halftime. Dubstep is space, pace, and bass at or around 140.

i don’t need to hear how i’m not enjoying life because i don’t listen to enough rave music. I appreciate all kinds of music. But your writing is fucking stupid. and why is it always about fucking cats. Get the fuck off reddit you knob.

Yeah isn't disko rekah like 147 or something?
yeah think it's like 146, pretty fast whatever but tbh there's loads of em about. that new gorgon sound bit is about 145, oh my gosh by SP is around that, i've got loads at 142. all it takes by TMSV is like 150 and surely pepper spray by pinch is dubstep too? that's ridiculous like 170 or something. doesn't make it d&b now does it... just because a lot of dubstep is 140 shouldn't make it a defining feature

i felt like disputing that, but then i listened to the tune
i think its dubstep
not that its genre is super important
its a fucking tune, too

but to be fair, it wouldn't exactly go down in a mix with other dubstep. its an interesting thought
i don't mind tempo shifts in a mix, but you get what i mean, as in it wouldn't blend for a sustained mix
