you don't have to feel one hundred percent comfortable with everything around you to have fun, shit, having real fun is all about fucking with the things that make you comfortable. I don't take K at raves, i rarely take drugs at all but if someone is getting filthy at a rave, who the fuck am I to be like, "Oh, you're too fucked, take a seat and sober up mate."
It's not about going to a club and thinking "oh no, these people are taking DRUGS! I can't stay a moment longer in this den of depravity, I must leave and go to sunday school instead," though.
It's about going to a club and finding that instead of dancing and being happy and social everyone's sitting on the floor staring into the middle distance and the night is like a fucking graveyard as a result. If that was happening I wouldn't care whether it was because people were injecting rat poison into their eyeballs or because they were having a nice glass of warm milk and a biscuit, I basically wouldn't enjoy it much. I'm not saying that this is happening - I basically only go to FWD and weird dnb nights these days so I don't know - but some people seem to have had that experience. And if it's not about the people around you, why not stay at home and put on a mixtape?

About 10 years ago I got into k in a fairly big way. Used to buy half litres and ended up doing it every day for about 3 years. I built up such a tolerance to it I was doing bumps at work... the effect for me was like a combination of weed, speed and heroin. It was a lifestyle and I absolutely loved the stuff. I kept the show on the road for a while.
At higher doses than bumps it's a disassociative anesthetic - it separates the mind from the body. When this happens the brain comes up with tons of incredible shit to fill the void. Childhood memories, forgotten dreams, time travel. It's like a massive deja vu trip - what Nietzsche called 'eternal recurrence' ... reliving the same moment for eternity. The k world seemed more real to me than reality - and superior. When I came back out of the k world it was reality that seemed far-fetched. K was just like going home.
Whatever you experience in the k hole is very personal... it's the same place in the brain that dreams come from. There's not much point in describing it to other people as it gets boring and doesn't make much sense.
After about 3 years I started getting panic attacks / near-death experiences/ bad k hole trips... so I stopped doing it. K was letting me down so I just quit. I guess there was no more for me to get out of k at that point. I was experiencing some schitzoid symptons as well - everything had double or triple meanings... the tv used to talk to me personally.
I really missed it - but just got on without it. It wasn't that difficult. I never had bladder problems by the way... I was always told not to swallow it after snorting - spit it out ... .as if it goes into your bowel it would cause problems - that's what I heard.
Then about 2 years after that I got another connection and started buying half litres again. This time I was more careful and just did bumps - never daring to go back into the hole. Once again it became a daily part of life.
Eventually my drink and k problem got completely out of control and I ended up in hospital - although this was more for drinking than the k habit.
That was in 2005. I have now been dry and clean for the best part of 3 years. Had a few lapses but nothing major. Life is certainly quiet without the chaos of addiction. There's something missing but that's probably because I haven't really filled the time that I used to spend drinking and drugging with anything else.... apart from Burnout on the PS2.
I'm happy enough though. The money I used to spend on drink and drugs I now spend on records every week. I managed to keep my job ... (very understanding boss). Life is pretty good.
I feel sorry for anyone with dependence problems. Alcohol is a painkiller and an anesthetic.... it's legal, it's cheap, it's habit forming and it's socially acceptable - not a great mixture. There's a certain type of person who falls into the trap of addiction - many people can just take drugs occasionally with no problems.
Whether k is ruining dubstep I don't know. I rarely listenened to music when I was on it.
Sorry for going on.

its not going to ruin a music genre..

lol. been in the exact same situation before a few years back. only gave the guy a little line but he fucking lost it. managed to convince him to buy us some drinks before he completely lost the plot. ended up with his girl friend screaming at us for 'spiking' him while he stumbled around talking to himself. no footage unfortunately.

How can u claim K is ruining dubstep unless the fact that they are on drugs is personally upsetting you? Each to their own, if anything it is probably ruining your perception of what a night should be like, you know the way people should dance, if people respond to the DJ in a certain way etc. I've taken ket at dubstep nights and have absolutely loved it. But that's just me, and it would be nice to think that I'm not adjudged to be part of some so-called problem that's somehow going to irrevocably change dubstep?!

People who focus on their chemical of the week and not the music will appear in every scene.
You can take it as inspiration for how
not to act and a reminder that
you are there for the music itself, whatever genre it happens to be.
For some folks, going to a show and dancing is their healthy release, for others, it's getting obliterated. Everyone's got their own reasons for being there...
My two cents...
Hilarious picture of the party-puppet, btw...

Seriously, I can see how people laying down the law on what other people should and should not be taking and where and when they should take it is a bit ridiculous, but the idea that it doesn't make any difference to you what drugs other people are taking? Seriously? I know K makes you a bit oblivious to your surroundings, but does the way that the people around you are behaving really make no difference to your night? Would the hardcore scene circa 1991 have been exactly the same if everyone was on ket rather than E?
The vibe is a really big part of a night out - it's what makes it different from just staying at home with yer headphones - and the range of substances people are on is going to have a pretty obvious effect on the vibe.
I'd say 'what are you on', but, y'know...

on ket you are the bassline.
but yes, you dont need drugs to enjoy dubstep. it can be ruined when you go to a night and everyone in just in a K hole.

Wow, who woulda guessed there were so many great K vids on Youtube...
I don't understand how/why one would do anything greater than a bump when they are not firmly planted on the ground of their own domicile, with doors locked and headphones on.
Back in the day, the rave scene was divided over whether or not X was ruining techno, giving rise to genres that weren't accepted as legit at the time (like jungle and happy hardcore... well HH is still a testament to what happens when one does too many drugs)...
But anything that is "mind-expanding", that allows an artist to think outside of the box (not necessarily just drugs ya know), is a bonafide tool for production of original art... Whether or not the new artform sucks is up to you, but the point is, drugs are catalysts for new art.
