Some more melodic stuff for you. Curious to know if it sounds like any particular label or style.

thanks!

Try adding some bass or sub-bass.

Reason, how should the tune of the bass go with the rest of the song?

You could have the sub bass mirror the lead/mid bass you have going or you could have the sub be composed of the same notes in a different sequence. It's really up to you man.

It felt a little empty to me so I would say add some other elements like a pad, lead or more percussion. Other than that it seems like you have a good start.

This is an extreme work in progress. I just started it tonight and have yet to do a proper mixdown. I just have it mixed so that you can hear the basics, but it is kind of muddy at parts. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

My first attempt at making a tune. Pretty simple stuff, all done in Reason 4. Let me know what you think please guys! :D

Howdy, another in progress twisted from an earlier project in the persuit of more tasty basslines. (Don't judge the structure, just trying to get ideas down).

Let me know what you think, be harshly critical :)

Well, ok.

1) there's a stereo spatialiser or some sort of stereo chorus across the bassline - it's hideous. Try listening to it in mono and the mix completely changes.

2) the bassline's too loud: it's taking over the mix so you can barely hear the drums. Perhaps because you can barely hear them, the drums sound like crap.

Harsh enough? I could be harder on you, but then I'd just be trying to hurt your feelings.

That would be improved immensely if the snare were somehow different. Either a different sample, more high end, or maybe some reverb. Or all of the above.

Just a thought.

Had a break from the wonders of production for a good half a year. Still away from my actual studio with nothing but a laptop and headphones atm, but this is what I've got down so far. Not sure it's worth carrying on, but a pleasent little snippet to me :)

Thanks for the feedback mate. I hear what you're saying on the snare. I'm happy with the actual samples I've used (two snares and a clap layered) but I'm gunna play around with some reverb and EQ and see how it sounds. Cheers!
