ah I really appreciate the words man! Especially since making dubstep isn't exactly something I learn much outside of the internet (not too many peers in Cleveland), it's helpful to get feedback like this so I know how to change my approach in the future, as I need to boost some sub bass, and play more with dynamics and builds. I think I may just let this be a more grooved track and aim for a more dancey/ravey track with my next endeavors. much loveknell wrote:Wabberjocky - "Mongolian Dub"Wabberjocky wrote:@knell werd I love your indepth pro/cons reviews, can I get one? Here's the new track, I posted earlier but I didn't bounce everything the first time around anyways (whoops) so let me know, cheers
Soundcloud
pluses:
+that intro will definitely grab the audiences ears, sounds like one of those sweet throat vocals from freesound.org turning robot
+so, mongolian dub is a pretty appropriate title, which i always like when producers do, for some reason
+the high freq oscillations at the beginning are super tasty to my ears, would have super trippy effect on the ravers (me when im zonked at the club and not sipping tea writing reviews)
+mongol samples are nicely in rhythm
+lots going on, tracks always changing, always good to see someone put lots of work into a track
+high freq build (@ 1:21 and others) is super nice, almost like a palate cleanser for the track
+drums have a unique feel to them towards the end, almost african (im from africa so i have a clue)
advice:
-the drop bass synth (@ 0:33) could be a little harsher/crisp/something, or maybe have a slight pause/build before it.. it doesnt really stand out and blast ya like i was hoping.
-the break (1:46-2:04) needs something new to come in on that drop
-the flow is great, structurally, but needs more dynamically.. feels like the build just flows throughout.. if you're going for an ambient track then its great as is, but to get people jumping you'll need something predictable/build-break type thing
-didnt really feel the sub bass (im using headphone so i may be totally stupid for saying that if it's ultra low but usually i can tell either way)
overall its a super unique groove/trance track, i thoroughly enjoyed listening to it multiple times to write this review
much love

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
ah yeh, i definitely know where you're coming from.. i spent the past few years in Nashville where the dubstep scene is JUST starting to emerge, it was sad really... people had no idea what dubstep even was so there were some pricks who just took big systems, played Rusko and Datsik through them, and got mad props, fame and girls because they were deliberately fooling everyone into thinking that they made those tracks themselves... horrifying, i know. i got so sick of it that i moved to LA, where the scene is much more established and people will ream you if you tried pulling similar shit like just blasting Rusko and bobbing your dreds...Wabberjocky wrote: ah I really appreciate the words man! keep at it and go your own course, and you'll do big things. go with what you feel, you'll never finish a track if you try to make every single reviewer (myself included) happy

Dead Manners - "Femme"dedman wrote:http://www.myspace.com/reallydedman its the track femme... im happy with it all, but i just cant seem to get the crisp high end you hear the pros rocking out! any ideas people?
pluses:
+bump on the very first note, then chills into the intro... definitely gets the point across right from the start, i like, i like!
+that flute type thing is dreamy, almost sounds like a reverb-y, female voice in the distance
+different types of highs in the beat, makes it very easy to jam to
+variation of automation is KILLER, you kept me interested the whole way through
+was listening to it several times after i was done reviewing, that definitely is a good sign
+i think your wubz are crystal crisp man, not sure why you dont think you're getting it. sounds super pro to me, almost shattered my tweeters when i pumped it up to listen to the nuances. it doesnt sound like all the other pros tho, but thats not a bad thing at all, it makes your sound unique
+rising blips are a great build idea
advice:
-your wubz and beat were so crisp, it almost left my subs wanting more... kinda the opposite of what you were thinking, which confused me
-i'd like to see some different synths, maybe from your other songs, coming into this one, almost like a call-and-response style
-needs to get massively brutal and chaotic near the end, not just a re-hash of the first drop, i feel like you can totally bring it
-i think if you threw in some of that original ambience randomly throughout the wubz (i.e. wub-wub *flute abience* wub-wub) or even during the wubz to remind the listener of the beginning and tie it all together would be a nice touch
overall you have a stand up tune here man, i'm definitely gonna keep an eye on your myspace and support you any way i can
much love, keep up the good stuff

thats the spirit ket!!! this is the direction i like seeing threads like this heading in.. genuine, polite comments for us to mentally munch on... i think it should be something special when someone asks you for a 320... not the norm rook trying to privateer your tracks into their DJ set for their own egoketamine wrote:+ 1 Good review standard he's set. +wow. you dont mess around, do you man? nearly took the hair off my scalp when it came on the subs
+brutalness, your synths are right on point for the hardcore dubstep that's sweeping the scene these days
+variation of synth sound is nice, keeps me wanting to shake and groove the entire sound, comes in right as i felt like they should, kept me from waving the repetition flag, so biggup
+would EXPLODE in a club, the crispness really comes through, you gave my speakers a run for their money!
advice:
-missing the flow that i like in dubstep... more effective at scaring people than grooving them
-the drop is instant, you would need to mix in something to prepare the audience for that monstrous sound
-no samples? no breakdowns? straight face-peeling 'step can be a little much for the mainstream audience
-at 0:56 total, this seems to be a demo/filler rather than a finished track, most dubstep is just getting ready to drop when this is fading out
-synth variation seems to be the backbone of this song, needs a little more ambience
-if this is a demo/filler track, then you can disregard all this advice then and just put it into your final track

-no myspace? it's a safer place to show off your tunes... unless you dont mind people being able to instantly download, rip, steal, pirate and bastardize a HQ mp3 from your vids (trust me its done all day every day, i steer clear of the youtube)
much much respect, you dont hold back at all, this would make most baby boomers throw up, and i love it for that very reason

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
thank you for review, handy advices, appreciated. adding atmosphere is the boring part imo, but i know it can do alot with the listening experience, im gonna look into it.

Thanks for the advice, always need feedback so I can keep on improving.knell wrote:pluses:zonetrooper5 wrote:Got a new track up on my soundcloud and myspace page, check the links in my sig; track is called Green Feet.
+nice panning! always a good idea
+epic vocal sample
+nice split second silence in between the buildup and drop
+super sweet progression of the wub in the drop
minuses:
-the twitch 'zing!' synth near the beginning and through the drop gets a little grating and seems to interrupt the flow of the song a bit
-the drop progression might want to go a little faster... the fast wubs go on just past the 'woah' point as far as duration... maybe a quicker change or another synth interspersed in there might be a good idea
-synth starts to sound a bit paniced and dry near the end.. maybe more sub bass or a deeper wub for a richer timbre? (closer to that in 'heavy rain', perhaps)
much love, keep it up

Hey guys, after listening for a while I realised that i prefer this version more than the tripplet timing one.
would love to get a review on this.

oh trust me, i know exactly what you mean, that's usually why i start with atmosphere, so i dont get tired and skimp out at the endDrBio wrote:thank you for review, handy advices, appreciated. adding atmosphere is the boring part imo, but i know it can do alot with the listening experience, im gonna look into it.

but i'm more than positive you can bring it man... just work on getting a myspace so i can stalk your tunes!!
