You've pretty much just used the same description I used ;-)

I know there's no rocket science behind it but would like some insight plus some general chatter on interesting ways to get low end movement. I didn't just mean sub I meant the general low end of the mix that creates the groove with the kicks as I've made my own but it's always interesting to reverse engineer something your interested in.

To me that Bleak bass sounds a bit like a basic square wave with a 24db low pass filter on it with a very low cutoff (100HZ or below) and some resonance with automation on filter attack/cutoff to bring out certain notes but I'm probably wrong.

For the actual groove, you could bounce the bass down to audio and reverse some hits/chop and move them around to get more movement. Creating swing by manually moving some audio off the grid and trimming the hits so they don't clash with other kick and bass sounds helps to bring out the groove and it sounds better than using preset groove templates IMO.

Sidechaining the bassline to the kick or even other percussion such as the hi hats is also another good way of creating grooves for those sort of basslines although thats pretty obvious lol

Bouncing it out and manipulating is what I'd assumed got that main movement as i've done it before but not got it sounding this nice. In time though. I know these methods and already implement them, it was just the particular sounds in this track that got me thinking as it just works so well. Cheers for giving some input.

yeah most of the stuff i said in the previous post was a little bit obvious. although it might be useful for folk who have never made a techno/house sub line like that before.

again this might be obvious but the inbetween parts of the bassline are much lower in the mix than the main whompy square sound so maybe varying the volume of those hits would help bring out the groove more IDK.

Hahaha it's one thing to not like the music. But it's even better when you act like it's easy to make just cause you don't like it. Didn't see any other house threads so I thought I'd give it a shot, piss off.

As if any of this techno or "house" is any more difficult. And as if it's any better or any worse.

All this good music all over this forum, with just the most narrow-minded shit heads for it's fanbase.

He never said it was easy, he just said you are in the wrong thread. And you are.

it's not a group of narrow minded people, I replied to this and said what this is, simply a thread for techno and house, not for the stuff your talking about which has nothing to do with narrow mindedness, simply that this isn't a thread for that.

Why are all you people so hostile, it's ridiculous, just because you don't see eye to eye on music. Perej wrote hastily and now your acting aggressively. This forum really has gone down the shit pan in the sense of community and general manors etc.

If you wan't to chat about whatever that music is just start a thread for it for yourself and like minded people, that way it's easier for people to find out about what they're interested in as it's all divided into separate threads, simple.

No, there is definitely this very passive-aggressive, arrogant, haughty vibe that comes from people on here, and it's definitely less in the production section (god forbid going to general...). This "my music is good, yours sucks, get out, get with the program" feel.

I figured plenty of people post in here "brostep" sort of stuff so I thought it'd maybe welcome.

i'll begone though!

Because to me, house by itself doesn't mean much in the same way dubstep doesn't, it's just a drum pattern at this point IMO.

I totally agree with you, if I read my other post I said lets be civil and even in that post I said why are people hostile just cause they don't see eye to eye musically. So although one person was like that, i'm being nice and don't have anything against people being into whatever because it doesn't matter! Anyway start a thread yourself if there isn't one already as it'll be better to have different techniques for a different genre etc in a different thread just for ease of reading and using it as a resource :)

We're using different definitions of house & techno.

Sorry if I annoyed you, no need to be so sensitive. It's just that this clearly isn't a thread for what you posted, so what were you expecting? Go back to the first page, that's what it's about.

Yep shame, I tried posting and getting it back on track with some decent production chat. Just isn't going to happen here tho.

From the way you were talking before I would assume that your forum is only about one narrow style of techno?

Hey Mks - Anything Techno - but mainly "Modern" techno.

Industrial. Dub. Abstract. Dark. Classic. Whatever. Some Tech House. No minimal.

In regards to my views as to what type of music I personally like - hey, I'm a human being. I love techno - but I dont have to like everything. Probably similar to yourself haha

Heres another shocker. I love techno but I dont like the sound of the 303. Thats not to say that the majority of people on our site agree - but sure isnt that what makes the world an interesting place :D

Right on. I feel you. There is plenty of music that I don't like.

You don't like 303's huh? I suppose that sound has been done a lot but I do like some good acid sometimes.

I am really into Electro like Drexciya and whatnot.

haha - cool man

I suppose yeah, I feel like the 303 is a preset in a way. I just find it a bit exhausting to listen to. Its almost like its got 2 settings sometimes: Low. and RRRAAAAAGHGHG!!

I like when it sounds trippy more than "melt your eardrums".

Richie Hawtin / Plastikman Sheet One springs to mind as acceptable 303 to my mind.

^ I'm not a big fan of the 303 either, but Step to Enchantment blows my mind. Anyway

I have a question for you guys... I've been making a lot of house recently and been sort of moving towards more of a raw / 'homemade' kind of sound, I'd be keen to get thoughts on this. I made this tune the other day:

Soundcloud

Then last night I made this VIP:

Soundcloud

I feel like the new version is a bit less generic sounding and probably sounds a bit more like 'me', can anyone chip in? Cheers
