the zam zam 7"s sound great, though. but i agree that 12s are easier to mix with. regarding the price i'm not really surprised. prices for reggae singles have been off the chart for a while now.

7" records are OK to mix if you have a pair of record stabilisers. Obviously not as easy as 12" records though...

does anyone here use record stabilisers for mixing? what's your experience? I've been contemplating to buy some to prevent needle jumping. do they even help with this issue? how's cueing records with stabilisers?

I kind of agree, but what about the likes of Mala in Cuba. I often just kick back and chill with that spinning (but also mix with it too) The 7" series seems likely to focused on the more "chilled" Medi releases. I totally agree that dubstep is made to be played on a sound system and for a dance, but why not have a little series of 7" not specifically designed to be mixed with. Anyway, i guess we'll find out the game-plan once more have been released.

let's just say there's no way in hell I'm dropping 11quid on a single-sided 7" to be listening to at home from time to time.

Yeah they make mixing 7" and 10" records easier, and help with needle jumping (if a slightly warped record is the cause of the jump). If you use them to mix 7" records, I find it easier to touch the platter for cueing etc rather than touching the records themselves.

was chatting commodo for a bit last night. I asked him about the tune with JME and he said it should be out in about 3 weeks, and it will be the vocals one side instrumental on the flip

thank you for the reply!
mixing 7" I always cue them via the slipmat. not always with the best results to be fair, especially when the turntables aren't isolated properly.
I have some horribly warped records in my collection, four or five tectonic plates that suffered a great deal on their way to me - fuck DHL - so I've been looking for ways to make them run a bit smoother. I'll try to borrow some stabilisers from a local shop to try them out; that stuff ain't cheap after all.

we all know the advantages and disadvantages of 7 inches, but considering dubstep stems from soundsystem culture after all, seeing a discussion about how they're not really designed to be played on a big system is quite amusing.
and just because you feel that this specific tune is made for listening rather than playing out, doesn't mean that's the intention behind this new series.

I've got only one 7", the Alter Echo ZamZam one... It's really quiet and definitely NOT fun to mix. Considering this and the fact that the Mala tune is OK but nothing more and it's a single sided plate... I won't be buying it. I'm curious about the other releases in the series though.

All of my 7" sound pretty great, in fact they sound a lot better than a lot of the 33rpm records I have which tend to be really quiet. The Bug - Poison Dart Pt.2 vinyl might be the quietest vinyl I own and its 12".. does the size really effect the volume that much its noticeable on just home speakers, not a system?

Guess the 7" series will be more on a dub tip.

Still confused on why this is being released to debut a new series when its already been out for a while with that book. Not quite as prolific a start as kalawanji!

I thought there would be more love for 7"s on here... I love my 45s and many of them sound great! This particular release is pricey tho... and no B-side :(

Is the 7" series limited or something? red eye have already sold out & has it listed one per person too. I have some of the zamzam plates and sound top notch, not all 7" plates are thin and flimsy.

Was gunna say Redeye have it at one per person so probably gunna be a discogs special. Probably end up selling for more than what the book + 7" cost

If labels can regularly sell all copies before release/within a few days of them going up for sale or preorder they should be forced to call it a "Limited TANMUSHIMUSHI Edition"

the zamzam 7" sound ace... I told this story before: I played the zamzam double pack dubplate ting (Alter Echo & E3, I think) at our night and the mc turns around, looks me in the eyes and expresses his disbelief as to how much bass this plate packs. one of the weightiest records in my collection I think.

Haha. That guy...

In a rwdfwd if you're quick. I'm sure a repress isn't out of the question but maybe they pressed less as it's already come out as part of the Passion for Vinyl thing?
