@cheeky Dude really nice, definitely bring up the kicks more keep at it man I like that track a lot
@Hero Super Smooth intro man I like it maybe add some more variation in the bass sounds as you go along to keep it different at each beat
@Andreistephen Damn man thats pretty intense haha that bass sounds like it could use a little more umph, like with eqing
@asetik I would say variate the bass sound through out the whole thing it gets kind of repetitive, like give it a reason to go from sound to sound, not that this is bad at all, I personally like variation, I know its a wip though so ill shut up and let you work your magic hahaha
@TheGreatDanerrr Super cool synth sound man i really dig that, the mids sound a tad bit high though. I have learned that with mastering 'less is more' actually all works together strong in the end
@Iorek I like it, i would just say more low end bass and equalizing the bass

Ok so im stoked to share this cause I went back and reworked the shit out of it haha this is the final version now :)

Wizzardd - nice tune, sounds really fat, how did you get such a fat sound ? I believe the drums could have been more interesting, try addung more movement in cymbals, otherways its really good !

Iorek - good understanding of composition and the melody is alright, the tune is dynamic, not boring at all (unlike many many other dubstep tracks on my opinion) , the only commentary i ve got for you is maybe try to use either :
3 basses (20hz-75hz; 100-200;200-1700hr) , the numbers are aproximate, but that way you will have some proper space for the kick drum which I believe is somewhere between 75-100hz, and the third bass is the one with all kind of effects loke distortion etc. OR try to use few different oscilators with same configurations but slightly out of tune. Hope this helps, mu not a big producer myself and your tune is really good anyways ! ! !

AndreiStephen - man, listened to all of your tunes, I love the way you think, composition and sound are both great ! ! !

Some of the best feedback I've probably ever gotten thanks, I really appreciate it.
took a listen to a couple of your tracks on soundcould, you definitely know what you are doing. This experimental track has a fantastic atmosphere I'm almost expecting a large creature to wake up from it's slumber :W:

A very early work in progress... more housey than dubby but I figure this is a good place to get some feedback on basics such as EQing/mastering/melody.

Soundcloud

Iorek -
Nice old-school vibe in the start, that synth sounds great... but I'm not a fan of the shift in melody -- sounds a bit cheesy after 0:36 in my opinion.
The drums sound tight and work well with the rest. I also like the high pitch wobble you added for some variation.

TheGreatDanerrr -
Very good intro... Gotta get rid of those yoys though man... Stick to the style of your intro and you could have a really wicked tune.

wizardd -
The bass at :15 comes in pretty abruptly and doesn't really sit well, once you fade out its volume at :27 you sorta lost me. IMO since changes to volume are so noticeable they should only be made when it's suitable for the structure of your song. Right now the volume comes in and out almost randomly, and it also prepares me for a drop at :41 which isn't there. The actual drop at :55 is great though. The volume again seems to change and get temporarily louder at 1:03.

Good tune overall though! Just needs a bit more mixing/mastering. :W:

@wizzard: man that bass is sounding heavY! sub is coming through really nicely. like the low little FX you put in (sounds like a telephone ringing?) sounding PHAT!
@alexeyhermann: Like the atomsphere on this. Lots going on, good movement of the sounds as well. might need a bit more top end. but solid groove going.
@TheGreatDanerrr: I can barely hear the drums in the mix man. the snare def needs to come up and slap you in the face. Maybe a bit too much of the yoi going on. But there is def potential there.
@mattdesl: Loving the progression of this tune (can already imagine it turning into something really epic!) Nice laid back feel. Good sound design on this. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Hi guys
got another WIP.
Just want some opinions whether this song is too 'cheesey' for dubstep? if thats possible haha.
Barely had time to mix it down properly just wanna get feedback on the arrangements of the basses etc and whether they sound good together.

wizzard: Holy crap! This is such an awesome track, those drums bang!! How'd you get your snare like that ? Loving the bass, compliments the drums so well, this is more thought out and better put together than most of this style of dubstep i hear, so kudos on that. Oh and any chance of a 320 ? ;)

alexeyhermann: I love the glitchy percussion in your drums, really helps to carry the track along. Also liking the liquid style bassline, gives the track a lovely cold, atmospheric vibe. The only critisism i would give is that your mixdown needs abit of work, it sounds abit cluttered, maybe go through and tweek the levels and pan on some of the fx ? But honestly it is a sweet track and i think you've done a good job, hope you finish it.

mattdesl: You've got a solid sounding track here, loving the bassline. Kicks sound nice and punchy. Your clap sounds abit dry maybe slap abit of reverb on there just to give it abit of tail, or maybe even a slight delay. The mix is sounding great so far, and i'd love to hear how it turns out.

Anymore feedback for my WIP ?

I'm going to do a lot of critique, both to make a point, and because you lovely people deserve critique <3 Please also note that I live-critique, and critique while listening.

@JLProductions - Sounds a little similar to a lot of stuff I've heard, or at least the opening synth does. The opening synth is kindy bitey, in the terms that it's a bit harsh. The snare sound needs reverb desperately. Drop time... The drop is fucking groovy but needs some bass synth or something underneath it, as it's too similar to the intro. Also the "drop" cuts out too quickly, but you have a nice dub style drum sound (and I mean dub, not dubstep) but it grooves well enough. Sounds like a Daft Punk song from Tron... hold on, have to figure out which one... Look up "The Son Of Flynn" by Daft Punk because it sounds exactly like that... It's even in the same key. Might want to change that a bit, unless you don't give a fuck, in which case, go for it.

@Filtersnake - I'm liking the opening so far. Begging for some percussion... Niceeeee transition! I like the rhythm. Nice syncopation on the chord changes. DROP TIEM. Drop is sexy, beat is groovy. Everything is right with the world. Vocal sample is lovely. bro I think this track is done, it's fantastic. There's not a problem with it that I can detect, except maybe throw some kind of distortion onto the bass, mix it up a bit.

@RandoRando - Drop comes in wayyyy too early, mate, give people something to want. The art of dubstep comes with denying the drop until someone's craving it. Like... best way I can describe it is sexually. It's like when you're bleeping someone's bleep, and you don't want them to bleep until they're begging for it, so delay their bleeping as long as bleeping possible. The beat change is nice. Very groovy, very dirty. Diggin it.

@Lyons238 - I like the drop, but it needs some texture, some mixing up, some flavour, more synths, more everything. Kinda weaksauce at the moment.

@Anne Droid - Not sure how I feel about the intro, but I don't think it's positive. Sounds really cheaply made so far, but it could be a filter. Don't like the bass very much. Doesn't sound in key with the rest of the song, but I AM listening through cheap headphones at the moment, so I could be wrong. Drop is intense, but not sure I'm a fan. Could be that it's just not my genre, tbh.

@Jacob15728 - Kinda liking it, but it's lacking a certain "oomph" factor. It's brostep, but it's very quiet and melancholy. Isn't very groovy.

Okay friends, here's my latest, and most successful attempt at DUBSTEP! :D Finally breaking through. It's not done yet, but I've finally gotten the opportunity to mix it over some real monitors, and as a result, it sounds better. It needs more bass, and a better crash sound, of that much I am aware, but what else do I need? Criticism please! :D

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ONLY THE DROP, SO FAR. I NEED TO MAKE AN A SECTION AND A C SECTION, I KNOW.

Dude, you're posting some pretty harsh criticism for someone who is clearly very inexperienced at making dubstep...

Your kick is almost inaudible, snare has barely any punch and WAY too much reverb, wobbles have basically no movement (add some notching automation or something), need more variation in the drum beat, need more variation in the melody.

That's like saying you have to be a director to appreciate movies. Of course I'm inexperianced; I don't pretend to be anything BUT inexperienced. I apologize if my criticism is harsh, but I don't want anything BUT harsh, honest criticism. Thank you for your critique! I can't figure out how to make the kick loud and bassy without overloading it. Any thoughts?

Depending on what you use, I might be able to help you out. If you use FL Studio, just drop your kick into an FX insert then use Fruity Bass Booster (or something like that, I think it's called that.) just boost it to your likes.

I use Logic, and I use a Sub Bass booster, but it overloads it every time.

No, no. If you ever want to boost certain frequencies, use Fruity Parametric EQ (or any other parametric EQ if you're not in Fl Studio).

Just use a better kick drum sample if you want it to sound better. You can also compress and EQ it if you want, but it mainly comes down to the quality of your sample. If you look at a spectrum analyzer, your kick should peak at around 100 hz, and also have some higher end (maybe 1-2 khz) to give it a bit of a "crack". If it's not doing this, adjust your EQ so that it is. Another thing, if there are other sounds in the same frequency range as your kick there will be some interference so it won't sound as clear. Look at your other sounds on the spectrum analyzer. If you have other sounds playing on the same frequencies as your kick, you need to cut out those frequencies with an EQ so that part of the frequency spectrum (usually 100 hz) is reserved for the kick only.

Not sure what you mean by "overloading". Do you mean clipping? If it's clipping, just turn down the volume of that channel.

@wizardd: Damn, such a heavy drop. I honestly love what you're doing on this track.. the 2nd drop is brutal. Some really creative sounds too, well done.

@mattdesl: Listened to it a few times, I really liked the atmospheric and smooth transition into the drop.

@filtersnake: Overall I enjoyed it. I like that you didn't overuse high pitched noises. I though it had a decent balance.

@R3N3gAD3: I somewhat enjoyed what you've done so far, my only criticism would be that your snares have way to much reverb for my taste.

Anyways, I did the intro part the other day, nothing special. Everything else was done about 20-30 minutes ago.

@AlexeiHermann Duuuuuuude, my jaw and testicles dropped straight through the floor thats fucking sick!! keep working at it and define the sounds a bit more, not different just more umph to the sounds mainly the bass at those times it comes into hearing range. Very nice ambient work man! its sweet!

@mattdesl I like man!! Super chill hahaha has a really laid back vibe to it :)

@Filtersnake thats pretty sweet haha I like the bassline! I would just say expand upon all your ideas even more!! :P

@sub lox all I would say is eq that sucker and shes all good! And also bring up the bass its sooooo low!

@R3N3gAD3 Great start keep developing the entire thing and make it all a masterpiece, make every part count!!!

@DookiehowserOG Jesus fucking christ man, if he were here right now on this planet hed fucking play the shit out of this!!!! LOL fucking awesome man SERIOUSLY LEMME DOWNLOAD THAT SHIT NOW!!! PLEASE hahahaha ahhh it ends too soon man im gonna play it again!!! I wasn't expecting that kind of deep and sexy fucking drop.... its like opposites and im not at all saying that in bad light its fucking epicly sick they complement each other so well the drop and beginning.

Ok so some have asked bout my snares and in general I will give you all some tips and tricks on Eqing. By no means am I a pro but I work by realistically doing things with respects to it and how it works. Essentially what you need to do for smooth clear sounds is as simple as the word itself "Equalize" it. The EQ is there for a reason. Every sound should ALWAYS have an eq on it. Because in the process of mastering your are essentially shaping your sounds so they can fit together smoothly in such a tight space of heavy bass and sound. I know I didn't describe it well but I will just make a video about it. Like I said I am no master but its easier for me to show on video than to explain this way hahaha

Here is the free 320 link of the final mastered version I made the levels of volume way better than before

Lol. Yeah, sure I don't mind at all, I'm just glad someone likes it. I'll try to finish this thing up soon I've already added a few more different basslines.

Any ideas for a title? I'm bad at coming up with names.
