What's the point of Audacity? It seems like everyone has it but I don't see any point to it...

Although, I made a mix the other day and 52 minutes in i fucked it up, so i'm trying to fade the volume out on the song before the fuck up so it sounds smooth, but when I do that in Ableton, and then export it, it adds mad MB's to the file.

Would this be a good use for Audacity? Can you import/export without altering the file, crop, and do basic volume automation?

i use audacity for recording mixes and it's quite nice for chopping up samples imo

i use traktor when i'm bedroom dj'ing lol. only use cdj's when i'm out & about cause me & a group of friends share them so i don't keep them at my place.

but anyway...

yeah haha i use serato with a controller but the version i have doesn't allow you to record in serato so have to use audacity

To my knowledge, you can't do automation, but you can do fades etc. But I haven't used audacity in a long long time.

You can change the volume in audacity, yes.

audacity is the one, the first tunes I ever "produced" were made by pissing around with samples in FL studio and pasting them into audacity hundreds of times, trying to get the waveforms to join up neatly

also, it's great for just recording shit, I use it for recording vinyl, can pretty much do all the modifications you want in there. It's no DAW though.

Audacity is also great for sampling from YouTube and dvds.
